Agreements, past and present

If I enter into an agreement with someone, why would I care whether he purposefully breaks the agreement or is simply unable to hold up his end of the bargain (and knows this when concluding the agreement)? The only reason I would care is if all I wanted was a declaration of goodwill, not actual results.

Of course, if all I care about is a declaration of goodwill, I should just ask for such, instead of entering an agreement I know the other side will not keep.

So how's your trip? You missed a fun outing on my birthday (little italy). Hope everything's going great.
