New Zealand
I grew up in New Zealand. It's a great place, a place that I think about often as I clack away at my keyboard here in Silicon Valley. New Zealand is great not just for its unique collection of astounding natural wonders, but also because people there seem to "get" merging nature with community more than some of the civic planners in say San Jose have. This makes places like Auckland very pleasant to live in. I'm going to go back for Christmas next month for a few weeks, and am really excited.

I'm also honored to be invited to speak about Firefox at Webstock next year in Wellington alongside these esteemed folk.
I love New Zealand, I look forward to seeing more of it in the next six months!

Ben, enjoy your well deserved vacation! NZ is my dream - I'm from Europe.

I wish I could come to New Zealand, but I only have enough for a Suzi-Q.
You probably already know, Ben, but Firefox now has 11 percent of the browser market. I have a link to the story and others on my Firefox Blog.

I went home (Whangarei) for a couple of days last week. Spent a couple of days down in Auckland.
I really hate the city. Why anyone would want to spend the whole day inhaling cigarette smoke and exhaust fumes is beyond me. Not to mention the noise.
I like Whangarei better. More nature, less people. Just the way I likes it.

"This makes places like Auckland very pleasant to live in."
You're kidding, right? That's like saying "The winters in Saskatoon are surprisingly mild."
Wellington > Auckland.

As an American transplant living in New Zealand, I am LOVING living in Paradise... yes, that`s Paradise as in AUCKLAND! It`s funny how so many kiwis living outside Auckland look down their noses at such a great city.. even stuck in traffic, which is a minimal thing in comparison with most large American cities, you`re never more than 10 minutes from a view of the ocean and those big blue skies with the Simpson clouds are always beautiful to watch, even if it`s just from the car of your window. Not taking anything away from the rest of N.Z., as it`s ALL beautiful!! But there`s more to life than sheep farms and hills, and Auckland is a GREAT place to be!!

Pah. People who love Auckland have clearly never lived anywhere else. Try Whangarei, Thames, Gibson, Nelson, anywhere but Auckland. Traffic, smoke, Aucklanders - what's to like?
Posted by: Raglander at November 7, 2005 9:27 PM
Hehe. People who love to criticise Auckland are usually bumpkin kiwis who have a huge chip on their shoulder, and can't find it in themselves to move out of the town they grew up in. Come on Boston, get over it already.
I've lived in plenty of places around the world and Auckland ranks up there with the best of them. It's difficult to compare, as most places have a bunch of positive things to rave about (I did say *most*!). Auckland has a good mix. Auckland is anything but all traffic and smoke, but yes, you will find Aucklanders there (doh). So??
I'm resident in Auckland, but am not from here.

Oops, that was Raglander who had the chip on their shoulder ... :O)
(apologies Boston!)

Hi Ben,
I think you should do
{ background-attachment:fixed;}
on the .content class of your css. That way the huge firefox icon remains fixed on the screen and well it doesnt work on IE ;-)

Ben
We're really looking forward to having you at the conference! You'll be pleased to know that our stats for the Webstock site show Firefox running at just over 50% :)

Ragland, you must be afraid of the speedy traffic and big trucks in Auckland. Better stay where it`s safer for slower people... I`m sure there`s a $2 store and a 4 Square where you live. Who could possibly need more than THAT in life, after all? ; ))

I'm working on converting everyone here to firefox :), nice to have some help.

Say hello to Lower Hutt and Petone for me. And while you're in Welly, there's this great Italian restaurant at the end of that long curved street around the harbor - you expect me to remember names after six years? - the best calimari I ever ever had.
Kiwi-land in December-January. Hot hot hot. Loved it.

So, how's the job market in NZ? What are the best sources for finding tech employment down there?

Your pages do not print as expected in FF 1.0.7
