Firefox 0.9 Shaping Up

I haven't posted for a while because I've been very busy with the 1.0 Branch, the 0.9 bug list, and other things. Here are some updates:

  • The new Extension Manager is working quite well. I've fixed a few bugs but it seems there's nothing showstopping so far. Please continue to test this feature on the branch, and file bugs and nominate for .9 if you run into any problems.
  • I've been charging through the 0.9 bug list and now it's down to 8 blocking0.9+ bugs. If you know of any serious bugs that you think should block this release, please nominate them!
  • The updated products site and release notes are pretty much ready.

A request - please focus extension testing efforts on the branch builds, none of this is enabled on the trunk yet due to code review delays so by using the trunk you're wasting your time since that's not the code we're going to be shipping with 0.9 or 1.0.

I'd like to test this new Extension Manager, but there are no branch builds for Linux, there are only Win32 builds. :(

I was in the same position until I switched from making trunk builds [which recently stopped building for me], to building AVIARY_1_0_20040515_BRANCH branch builds

I'd like to try a Linux build as well, particularly a vanilla version (ie not gtk2 & xft). Any chance of switching some resources for better converage ?

Is the target date still set on 7th of june?

I'd certainly like to help test and report bugs with the 0.9 branch, but there still isn't a build for Linux.

Isn't mozilla.org risking that the Linux release of 0.9 will seriously suck because nobody can test it?

Hi Ben,

please consider posting to the l10n Newsgroup. We, the translators, need to know what is needed in order to support firefox new update machanism etc.

Tack makes an important point. By not providing Linux builds for the aviary branch, you're missing out on gathering useful testing feedback/talkback data.

I had expressed an interest in providing daily builds before, but was told it was unnecessary because there would be official builds up shortly. This was a few weeks ago now...

Not only Linux builds are a problem. There is *no* official Mac build since 2004-05-31.
I build regularily now (using J.Talkington's mozconfig) and provide the builds at MozillaZine forums, but most people don't look there, they look at the ftp-site.
Therefore, it would be really nice to have some Mac builds on the ftp-site again.

Oops. Looks like we've had some problems generating nightlies. This will be fixed today. Sorry! RC tomorrow night.
