Metro Firefox lands on mozilla-central

On Tuesday, our preliminary Metro Firefox development work arrived at mozilla-central, the source code repository that feeds the Firefox Nightly channel. This means that if you are on the Firefox Nightly channel and you have a Windows 8 device, your Wednesday Firefox update should deliver a Metro Firefox tile to the far right end of your Windows Start screen.

There's plenty of work still to do, but it's stable enough that we're ready for more and more regular testing. If you're a Firefox or Windows developer and you'd like to get involved, please let me know.

Great news!

Apart from the UI changes, is there any under the hood performance improvement over the regular Win7 Nightly ?

Installed the newest nightly build on acer w510, made it default browser, but no sign of Metro UI

I installed the recent update and made it defaut browser, but no sign of Metro UI.

Respin for Nightly is out!! Means another increment update to grab Metro UI related work, update in 3-4 hours and you will get Metro UI nightly in that update.

I mean about to out...
Regular update of today's nightly didn't got changeset of patches merged from elm branch. So another build is building which will roll out in 3-4 hours.

I can see the refreshed icon on the start screen, but it launches in the desktop mode. Expecting fix soon. :(

Doesn't appear to work with the 64-bit Nightly. 32-bit works fine, just as I have tested with the Elm builds prior. Try going into the Windows' Default Programs settings, and making sure Nightly has all of its defaults, and not just some of them.

Do you plan to switch to Webkit? Many websites are not displayed correctly in Firefox.

Dave - yeah, the announcement's coming next week.

Are you suggesting Firefox should succumb like Opera just did?
Do you wish a to support a browser monoculture?
If you do, you are suggesting something very bad for the open web.
If it was sarcasm, I failed to notice it.
If you don't you and every one how doesn't should at least sign this petition to convince Opera to open source Presto since they are abandoning it.

I wish they'd fix some things on the regular version of firefox in windows 8 first, for example the firefox button menu still looks messed up in windows 8, half of the menu items still use the windows 7 style menu highlight effect...

Dave, I find Firefox displays more correctly than Chrome does. Some sites may be designed towards Chrome, but that doesn't make them correct.
brandon, they plan on ditching that menu, so they probably won't be making any changes to it.

Should I download the regular nightly or smth else? The regular did not shown any Metro for me.

I think this is among the most vital info for me. And i'm glad reading your article. But want to remark on some general things, The web site style is perfect, the articles is really great : D. Good job, cheers

Running window 8, installed the firefox again and made it default browser , install the latest nightly build on HP 2200D but not able to see the sign of to Metro UI? Any Advice?
