firefox 3.5 is the most popular browser in the world

Firefox 3.5 is the most popular browser in the world. It tops IE 6, IE 7, and IE 8.

Yes, this is just one source.
Yes, all versions of IE combined still beat all versions of Firefox combined.
Yes, it's just one week.

So.

It's still AWESOME!

That is good news! I wonder how they will count 3.6? Will they add it to the 3.5 score or count it separately?

Many congratulations to all the Mozilla staff!

Congrats.

What is kinda surprising to me is the (still) large IE7 user stats. Haven't they heard of IE8?

Oh wait. I forgot, they're IE users. ;-)

Enjoy it while it lasts indeed, for soon Firefox 3.5 will be overtaken...

Firefox 3.6 will overtake Firefox 3.5 and I suspect that 3.6 will be back on top of the pack in just a couple of months after the release.

IE 8 growth is very slow. Firefox growth is fast. We'll temporarily fall off the top for a couple of months each time we do a new release, but the long-term trend is clear, Firefox's newest release will be at the top of the pack most of the time.

Holy Schnike!! How cool is this?! (rhetorical question)
I don't mind that it's "just one source", it's a credible one. I don't mind that it's just version against version, they're the two most popular ones. And I surely don't care that it's just from one week's stats. This was unthinkable a few years ago if not last year.

Bill Gates text message to Steve Ballmer:
Steve, I just farted and an ice cube fell out. Has Hell frozen over?

"Cullen said that Firefox's popularity is especially remarkable given the fact that users must install the browser onto their computers, while IE comes already installed on new computers running Microsoft Windows. "The market has spoken," he said"

That's something that we've always known and that's why this is remarkable indeed. People CHOOSE to use Firefox and not just accept what's imposed upon them. Damn hippies!

You could have just as easily have said,
"What is kinda surprising to me is the (still) large IE6 user stats. Haven't they heard of IE7 or 8, or are they just holding out for IE9"

I don't blame IE users, I blame Microsoft for continuing to support antiquated versions and for failing to make a good enough effort to get their users to upgrade. They're spending millions promoting Bing and Win7, yet the best that they could do for IE8 was some seriously lame Web campaigns that obviously failed.

Congrats Mozilla!

BTW, what kind of update treatment will 3.6 get? Will it be pushed like any old minor update (that would rock!) or will it be slower major update style?
