mostly moved in to our new home

Deanna and I spent another weekend moving and we're mostly done.

Here's a couple of photos of the new place.

The house is not only nestled in among the beautiful Coast Redwoods (also called California Sequoia, properly Sequoia Sempervirens) but it was constructed from the same back in 1928.

We're very excited about this move :-)

Awesome indeed!! Congrats!

Is it safe to assume that they'll be a massive TV going above the fireplace, or would that detract from the charm and compete with the fireplace?

Ken, not "massive" but not tiny either.

If you don't mind me asking, how many square feet is the new home? Just curious.

Jake, it's about 1200 square feet in the main cabin. We also have two other structures on the property. One is a little sleep cabin down on the creek. The other is a laundry room and storage area right off the main cabin. Combined it's ~2000 square feet.

Wow, that sounds awesome!

Not too shabby at all. Now I'm thinking that you'll have an equally great sound system that can be used to play the sounds of predators of unwelcome (and dangerous) visitors who'll be investigating the potential snacks new to the neighborhood.

Are those beautifully-cut beams and roof timbers really from 1928? Or has there been some replacement work since then?

Gerv, I believe the beams are original but the peg joints have since been "upgraded" with bolts of some kind. The ceilings may have been replaced when the skylights were put in but I'm not sure about that.

Congratulations. It looks AWESOME inside and out. I live in New England and I am not familiar with the weather in your new location so I am curious om how is the roof insulated (it is so absolutely beautiful).

IJR, this area has some of the mildest climate in the world, literally. We just don't get too cold or too hot. Lowest lows during winter are around 40 degrees and highest highs during summer are around 72 degrees. You can see more specific information here.

That's the closest town, La Honda, but we're actually tucked deeper in the woods, an sheltered even more from some of the cooler temperatures by the great Coastal Redwoods. We probably do get a little bit more rain than La Honda proper, but I don't expect it's too different.
