battle of the neck beards

Watching Bill Moyers Journal this morning, a program called The Legacy of President Abraham Lincoln, I happened to see for the first time a photograph of Horace Greeley the famed editor and politician.

Little did I know that on this morning I'd be witness to the fall of Henry David Thoreau from his long-standing neck beard championship.

Just compare and I'm sure you'll agree.

And just in case you still doubt the greatness of Greeley's neck beard, here's one more.

Dude, I've known about Horace Greeley's bitchin neckbeard forever. There are so many lustrous neckbeards who totally blow HD way outta the water. Come on over.

That's not a neckbeard, that's a mane!

Neck beards for the win. I had never properly appreciated the degree to which neck beards allow their wearer to appear grizzled and totally clean-shaven at the same time. Brilliant.

HDT's NB is so much thicker than HG's. It frames his entire face. Greeley's is just too wispy and sparse. Actually, he looks a lot like Dick Cheney.
