i think this

I think this is a dream. Only better.

I have confidence in Barack Obama, but at this moment that doesn't even matter.

I mostly feel a sense of relief, a complete, totally exhausted sense of relief that George W. F'ing Bush will finally be headed back to his fake ranch in Crawford, Texas.

Right now, it doesn't even matter to me whether Obama will be a great president (he will) it just matters that we're no longer George W. Bush's country.

Sins of the USA cannot be wiped away just because G. W. Bush is gone.

I wish we could have Mr. Obama too instead of our actual Prime Minister.

At least you, U.S. people, were able to make an _amazing_ change after 8 years of inglorious administration.

We couldn't... :ashamed:

God bless your new President!

What's this got to do with Firefox--or is that the "more" that you refer to in your title? Why don't you discuss your sports teams here, or maybe the latest fashions and automobiles?

It's your blog, but I'd recommend that you get off of it, Asa, and get off of it fast. You are doing no justice to Firefox with that little rant.

You are entitled to your opinion. So are the 54 million potential Firefox users who may disagree with your comments.

Well, way to f'ing early to decide whether Obama will be a great president. People need to lower their expectations. And nice of you to mention the word f'ing when referring to Bush. Real creative and smart. Thanks for the commentary, but you've just saved me some time when going through my feeds since you are now unsubscribed.

At rzr,

"What's this got to do with Firefox"

- Nothing

"or is that the "more" that you refer to in your title?"

- Yes

"Why don't you discuss your sports teams here, or maybe the latest fashions and automobiles?"

- Great idea! Why not email Asa and ask him to blog about that too- you never know, it might happen

"It's your blog, but I'd recommend that you get off of it, Asa, and get off of it fast."

Alternatively, you could start your own blog and talk about the things that interest you.

:-)

Asa...

yes, agreed. relief mostly. there is widespread and obvious relief here in New York (smiles, fireworks, random congratulations between strangers on the street) about the election results - and happiness in the clear and total rejection of the bush administration's policies (fear mongering, incompetence, crony capitalism directed from the highest office). hope comes from the promise of new possibilities - and no new possibilities (hence no hope) were offered by the the red side of the political isle.

thanks for posting about something more important than faster javascript interpretation or ff marketshare. am always disappointed when 'geeks' (such as we are) act / write / think within such a tiny / childish world view that is that non-engineering problems are viewed as distractions.

best.

Unlike some, I'm not surprised that I don't agree with everything you post on here, Asa. It's a great country, and it's great we can disagree with various people about various things and still work together.

I honor your celebration though I don't hold quite the same expectations for the next view years.

I do disagree both about the silly bashing of a "fake" ranch (what does that possibly mean or add to any discussion), and the notion that we're not in GW's country. It's never been his country, it's always been ours. You may have ardently opposed him, but half your countrymen did not, and some (a smaller percentage than ever, granted) still do. He is our president for a time, but it has been, is, and will be our country.

If you really think this has been a terrible, tragic reign, you really haven't looked at some other countries (nor have you honestly looked at his administration). Too many people have gotten caught up in the moment and "bush hatred". History as usual will calm temperaments and allow people to see more clearly.

Peace.

That's quite right Aaron, I'm sure every potential Firefox user screens Asa's personal blog for his political and opinionated views and if they don't match up perfectly to their

Posted by: Damian | November 5, 2008 2:50 PM

Oh, come on now. This is Asa's blog. What is up with the warnings and the threats? Firefox is a great browser no matter which president is serving the country.

Fact is, most Americans like Obama, and many many people are breathing a sigh of relief now, although some are still tense and won't relax until the inauguration day. Get used to hearing compliments and good things being said about Obama. Until Obama does something stupid while serving as the president (which is possible because he is a human being after all), it's going to be hard to find bad things to say about Obama.

My list of Obama's minuses:

voted for FISA
voted for the bailout (read: robbery of America)
pro-gun control

But all in all, so far I like Obama. I have great hopes for him. Obama is not my ideal man, but he's far better than McCain would have been (or God forbid Palin, should anything have happened to McCain).

And none of this has anything to do with Firefox. :) You can hate Obama and still like Firefox. There is no problem. At the same time, you can also like Obama and prefer Opera. That's also fine. Grow up please.

We need a president who cares about the working rank and file Americans and not just the rich fat cats. We need a president who can inspire our nation and who can promote science and set before us lofty goals, such as going to the Moon and such, and we do not need a president who starts expensive wars under false pretenses and who takes 3 days to respond to natural disasters and who thinks Constitution is just a piece of paper. You don't need to be a progressive person to appreciate this. Even a conservative can appreciate this truth.

Again, he's certainly entitled to his opinion. I was confused that this was a Firefox info blog and he was blogging as a representative of the Mozilla Foundation. My bad.

Posted by: Aaron | November 5, 2008 6:49 PM

Leo: being pro gun control is a minus, huh? I guess you've gotta be inside the USA to think like that.

Posted by: Stifu | November 6, 2008 3:15 AM

Get off your soap box and out of lock-step with Hollywood and the media's darling of the moment. While it's your blog it would be appreciated if you spared us your political rants. FYI, I completely disagree but that's really beside the point. I come here to learn a little about Firefox NOT your take on the political scene.

Posted by: James | November 6, 2008 9:41 AM

While I may agree with you, I agree with James. I will no longer be visiting your blog (or any other blog designed for something other than politics). Keep your opinions to yourself and stick to the topic. There are plenty of better writers out there that I can't even keep up with without having to hear their off topic opinions. They have great facts and don't inundate us with useless opinions while we are sifting through our RSS feeds. Go hang out on that ranch with W or keep writing. I don't care because I'm not reading anymore.

Posted by: Alex | November 6, 2008 11:21 AM

Asa is happy about something, and posts about it. End of story, no need to get your panties in a twist. Especially since posts like this one are only likely to pop up once every 5 years. If you're only really interested in reading about Firefox and nothing else, there are better and more detailed sites out there.

Posted by: Stifu | November 7, 2008 7:16 AM

I'm shocked and appalled that Asa has opinion on maters other than Firefox! I'm even MORE shocked that these opinions might disagree with someone! Clearly Asa should never speak of any issue but Firefox, because that's his job and thus his entire life. Any time he spends not thinking about Firefox is money STOLEN from MoCo, and thus is treason. I assume he'll turn himself in for execution post haste.

Posted by: Grey Hodge | November 7, 2008 8:23 AM

You need to be concerned about Firefox and not politics. If you want to bash the President of The United States do so in a political forum. The Chosen One has not been in office for a single minute and he is being hailed as the second coming of Jesus Christ. George Bush does not have a fake ranch and this will be my last visit to this site. I may even switch to Opera as Firefox 3.0.3 seems to suck really bad.

Posted by: Gary King | November 8, 2008 5:35 AM

Thanks to you I'm Switching to Opera!!!!

With the most retarded visitors now gone for good, maybe that'll raise the average comment level here.

> Leo: being pro gun control is a minus, huh? I guess you've gotta be inside

Yes, you sort of do. After all, it's the US that has as part of its Constitution something about a right to bear arms. You're welcome to your opinion that gun control is always a good thing, but please don't do the whole "you must be an idiot to think that gun control is ever bad" routine some Europeans are so fond of.

> With the most retarded visitors now gone for good

Ah, the well-worn "anyone who disagrees with me is retarded" routine.

When the level of political discourse falls to this, which it does with alarming regularity, there's nothing to do but seek a different interlocutor. And perhaps vote "no" on all candidates involved.

Posted by: Boris | November 9, 2008 7:45 PM

"Ah, the well-worn "anyone who disagrees with me is retarded" routine."

Anyone who disagrees with me, what? I don't remember having voiced my opinion on the matter, or even them addressing me.

It's just that I think it's stupid of some people to stop visiting a site just because of a little post like this one. I'd understand if people left because Asa is too Mozilla-biased or whatever, but for something like this...?
If Asa posted "Oh fuck, McCain didn't make it!", I wouldn't care and just keep visiting his site, but that's just me.

Posted by: Stifu | November 10, 2008 3:11 AM

PS: personally, if I had to leave, it'd more likely be because of the lack of either new or interesting content... ¬_¬ http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/archives/2008/11/must_have_exten.html

"It's your blog, but I'd recommend that you get off of it, Asa, and get off of it fast." - This is the way Bush supporters react.

How do you like that? Republicans should be happy to have Obama as president because he's not going to hang Bush. Heaven knows if I were president, Bush would hang.
