download day in your timezone
Download Day 2008 officially kicks off with the release of Firefox 3 from Mountain View, California, USA at 10:00:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time (PDT).
OK. So I suck at math and I got enough of this wrong that I'm gonna just cross it out and let you all do the math yourself or use an online calculator like this or this
Now, the good news: Download day is 24 hours long so even if the time is off a bit, that shouldn't be a problem. Check the Mozilla website at the time listed above and if you see Firefox 3, then download it. If you don't see Firefox 3 yet, then we haven't released yet. Just wait an hour or two and check back. There's no need for everyone to make the download at the exact same minute :-)
reactions, thoughts, comments, etc.
Make that 6pm in the UK, Asa.

I sure hope those servers are up for it!

Asa, you got many of your times wrong...
You may want to simply link to http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=6&day=17&year=2008&hour=10&min=0&sec=0&p1=224 instead; and let that site worry about the calculations.

Will FF2 auto-update to FF3? What about FF3 RC1?
Posted by: Punning Pundit | June 16, 2008 3:54 PM
You might consider adding Atlantic Time (for Atlantic Canada) (which I think is -0300 GMT) (2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 17) and Newfoundland Time (which I think is -0230 GMT) (2:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 17)

Punning Pundit,
Firefox RC1 was ages ago, the current RC is version 3!

Is this from the main site only? What happens to all the installs done via package managers?
Posted by: ant | June 16, 2008 4:41 PM
From the Mozilla mirrors.

Auto-updates don't count. You'll want to download the full release to be a part of the record books. Also, the auto-update from 2 to 3 probably won't happen for several weeks at the earliest. We usually auto-update after we've done our first security and stability update.
Installs from Linux distributions do not count. If you want to be a part of Download Day, you need to get your Firefox from Mozilla's website.
Mozilla mirrors are all managed via a cool app called Bouncer that makes it transparent to the end user. Just download from Mozilla's website and don't worry about mirrors.

Apparently i'm a little too early! Was planning to install FF3 on 2 systems before going to bed...
One thing i've just noticed...the start time of 10am PDT on the 17th will coincide with 1am on the 18th in places like China...i hope they didn't spend all day today waiting for it!

Figures, haha. I realize it's 12:30 AM and I check here thinking "DOWNLOAD NOW!" and now I realize I have to wait. =P Oh well, system restore it is! I'll be virus-free for the download! :D

Just a little disappointed that the whole of Europe starts its Download Day after normal working hours have finished (i.e. after 5pm), but I guess 8.00am PDT would have been too early for the Moz folks. Oh, and 10am PDT is 5pm UTC (aka 6pm BST and 7pm CET) for those who want to know the universal time.

Just check your web site every 1-2 hours ? Bad idea.
Your download day start on June 18 in my country.
Please put the exact time in the project's main web page, so people in my country checking your web site will go to work & sleep for today and come back tomorrow.

Next time check beforehand if the hours make sense at www.scheduleonce.com/SingleTime.aspx

Time zones confusing? Maybe a bit, but I hate that am/pm stuff... Can never remember which is what. Anyway, can see from the comments that 5pm is 17:-)

Hey, you forgot to include the countdown timer :D
http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?month=6&day=17&year=2008&hour=10am&min=00&sec=00&p0=224

they should have given the exact time of release on the main webpage
the 'spreadfirefox' webpage is one poorly designed one making only for pledge and shows some downloads numbers which are confusing
and no information on the exact download time or date in their webpage
also nothing about it in the firefox official page (should have given a timer, atleast)
F****K the record @#$%*@

As I'm in the UK it looks like I'll have to curb my excitement until I boot up tomorrow!
Posted by: Bill | June 17, 2008 1:36 AM
why dont they just put the package up now. stupid.
Posted by: hugh | June 17, 2008 2:27 AM
Come on its 7:13, why can't they release it. Its so suspenseful waiting like this. I agree it should have been released right away at 1200am. All well.

Do you have to uninstall 2 and install 3?
Will it keep my bookmarks and such?
P.S.
I once created a form and typed in "Misouri" by accident instead of "Missouri". Now every time I create a form it asks if I want to put in Misouri in the state field. How do I delete this?
thanks...
Posted by: johndoe | June 17, 2008 8:39 AM
johndoe - this isn't really the place to ask.
But yes you can just install 3 over the top of 2, although it's probably not recommended. Your bookmarks will stay if you uninstall anyway, as they're stored in your home directory rather than your programmes folder.
And in a form field, if you highlight the wrong option using either your mouse or up/down arrow keys, you can press shift-delete to remove it.
