setting another record
Tens of thousands of Firefox fans have already set the world on fire with amazing accomplishments like the New York Times campaign, Firefox Flicks, and the Firefox Crop Circle.
Today, the Firefox community is taking it even further, and you will definitely want to be a part of this, so head over to the Firefox Download Day 2008 site and sign up to help set the Guinness World Record for the most software downloads in 24 hours.
update: This will be a new record and we'll want to set it at an unimpeachable level. We've done at least a million and a half on previous release days, so we can definitely top that.

Silly question - what's the current record holder for the most downloads in 24 hours? Or has it never been "officially ratified" before? If there is an official record holder, the Download Day site really should mention it, so we know what target we're aiming for...

What's the current record?

Ok... so there's no current record holder.
Also there are a few more questions in my head:
1. Are we simply counting downloads as opposed to clean installs? So I can contribute several times by downloading Firefox 3 over and over, even though I already have it on my machine?
2. Is Download Day = Firefox 3 release day?

David, we're counting completed downloads in a 24 hour period starting with the Firefox release.
So, yes, you and a few others could probably add a few extra downloads to the count but it wouldn't be anything more than noise in the millions (hopefully) total.
The record isn't for software installs, it's for completed downloads and we'll have a third party auditing the data to confirm the results.
