judge a product by its founder?

I've found twitter to be a pretty interesting platform and even though I haven't used my month's old account, I have been following many interesting (to me) twitter discussions.

I think, though, that I'm done. Seeing how twitter's misogynistic and self-centered founder, Evan WIlliams uses the service, I'm just no longer as interested as I once was.

reactions, thoughts, comments, etc.

I can agree. I can't think of web services I avoid, but I won't, for example, read Orson Scott Card's books, wear Nike shoes, etc. It doesn't do much, but it makes you feel better about yourself.

*shrug*
Twitter *is* boring.

That said, it also suffers from the same problem that plagues SMS, IM, the CNN ticker and to a lesser extent, email: it's very, very difficult to extract the real mood or attitudes of the writer from such short, hastily-composed bits of text.

It's entirely possible that Mr. Williams has such a distorted opinion of his own importance and that of his service that he really does feel that anyone who doesn't share his views is an unenlightened bitch. Or maybe he was trying to be funny.

At the end of the day, who cares? It's just Twitter...

I also find twitter boring...but I'm not sure that using a gender-specific derogatory label automatically makes you a misogynist, especially when it appears to be in jest. I mean, that's a pretty strong word to use on someone. I briefly looked at Evan's recent posts and didn't see a pattern of hatred/prejudice against women, but maybe I'm missing something?

Incidentally, I think posting to twitter and being self-centered go hand-in-hand. :-P

Attempts at humor can quickly go awry, especially when your joke includes a derogatory term directed at a woman coming from a man. Add 8,000+ subscribers to your subjective ramblings and you're going to get some negative feedback.

I haven't subscribed to any twits so I don't really know what kind of personality the founder has. I will say that Drew Curtis of Fark.com has attracted a pretty sad following.

I'd never say anything like this to anyone, male or female, but I agree with Sandy. If calling someone that word makes you a misogynist, does calling someone a d**k make you a misandrist?
