really big numbers
(For context, you should have already read John Lilly's blog post on Mozilla & Firefox Market Share.)
This week, for the first time, we measured more than 50 million active users on a single day. That should roughly translate to about 150 million total Firefox users out there.
Wow.
reactions, thoughts, comments, etc.
What does Firefox installed by distribution packages do ? Does it still ping even if it cannot update itself (not enough rights) ? Sure, it's not the most of your users, but still another reason to think that your estimation is conservative...

Firefox installed on Linux distributions may not "ping home" for it's own updates, but it certainly does "ping home" for a check on updates of installed Add-ons. Does Mozilla includes these Add-on update checks in this metric or not?

Awesome. Wonder if this new peak has anything to do with Netscape announcing they are discontinuing their browser and recommending FireFox?

We don't see any of the Linux distributions' included Firefoxes. They're the "dark matter" of our world and probably account for something more than a million users and something less than 10 million users.
ADAC, we haven't seen any spikes in downloads of Firefox related to the Netscape announcement. Their numbers are so small that even if many of them were to move over to Firefox, they'd hardly be noticed.
