for the children

Today, my good friends at Glaxstar have released Glubble 1.0 -- the parental control suite for the Firefox web browser.

But it's more than just parental controls; it's the best way to harness the most important social network there is, your family, to bring just the right parts of the web into your household, and it's the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your young ones are using the very latest in safe and secure internet technologies, produced and supported by the largest open source community in the world.

In other news: Firefox just hit 17% market share:

Do they not think kids know these things?

Thanks for the hint. I will try it.
Can someone optimize the website from glubble. Using an other font size and everything looks very ugly :-(

Parental control is necessary

hope this helps

I used to use the Glubble betas on my family computer for a while before we upgraded to Leopard. I kind of gave up on it though because my kids each have their own account on the computer, and I couldn't get Glubble to automatically log into a specific user any time a given Firefox profile was launched (since they each have their own profile in their own accounts, it seems redundant and a pain to have to log into Firefox again after launching it -- especially on a parent's account). Once I upgraded to Leopard and discovered that the built-in parental controls in Leopard actually worked in Firefox I just switched to using those. It's not quite as pretty, but it's certainly functional, and doesn't impose an undue burden on the parent accounts.

Maybe this is fixed in the final 1.0 version of Glubble, but being content with what I've got, I haven't tried it.

@dave, 1.0 version now enables parents to remain (and auto) sign in. Its a completely different experience from the original proof of concept beta, I think you'll like it. Its designed for elementary age children.

Protecting children online is complex. Technology can assist but nothing replaces the role of the parent. Parents should use the internet as a new opportunity to discuss life’s difficult challenges with their children.

Technology like what we use at WiHood protects children from inappropriate web pages and is updated daily. It is astonishing that every day over 100,000 pedophile, sex, and gambling web sites are created. Parents don't have the time to find and block all these sites but they do have the time to learn with their children what good habits to have while using the internet.

The internet is a wonderful development and children should be allowed to use it but in a safe and secure environment. We have done this but we also emphasize that the role of the parent is the most important role of a child's life...today and tomorrow.
