wikipedia is fun

My wife alerted me that my Wikipedia entry was nominated for deletion because I'm not notable enough. Interested in this -- not the concern over my entry, but rather the idea that there was a process for nominating articles for deletion, I decided to read up a bit more.

After more than two hours of reading the discussions on specific articles nominated for deletion, I'm determined to never do that again. It's just too much fun and I could really lose a lot of hours to it.

I'll leave you with these gems and a promise to never go back there.

"This is no less important than any article on wikipedia about Klingons."

"Note that this is not an article about the phrase the realm of possibility, which could conceivably be verifiable, but instead an essay about the realm of possibility itself."

"This is notable because this is a special, groundbreaking, and important episode in the history of power rangers."

"Even if she wasn't murdered, she was still somewhat of a popular porn star."

"Preschools have the same right to have a Wikipedia article as elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, and post-secondary schools."

and my favorite:

"Within the Zork universe, the 'White House' is quite notable"

reactions, thoughts, comments, etc.

Is your name pronunciation written in IPA correctly in that article? (Can't cite because of ISO-8859-1 being used on this page, but this version)

"Preschools have the same right to have a Wikipedia article as elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, and post-secondary schools."

One thing I love about Wikipedia is how more and more people and even companies are viewing it as a marketing tool that they have a right to. More and entries read like brochures, simply because they literally are.

I found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:AADD pretty interesting. The "Klingon" bit sounds like a perfect example of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS.

If only you were a Zork character, the gods of Wikipedia might deem you worthy of inclusion in their "encyclopedia". Or maybe you could make an appearance in an episode of Power Rangers. Just make sure it's a "special, groundbreaking, and important episode" before you go to all that trouble though. ;)

hehe, reading the discussion on wikipedia can often be a lot more fun than reading the articles themselves.

I fiercely defended the trivial theorem of arithmetic:

"Almost all natural numbers are very, very, very large"

A lot mistaking it for a mathematical joke, I believe in the end it was decided it was valid after a serious proof was posted and ended up being merged with another article on 'almost all'.

I read the article and I don't understand it.

> Verbose.
> The 'white house' *is* cool.
Does not recognize "the 'white house' *is* cool.
> E, W, NE, SW, open the fucking the window, W, D, kill the troll with the bloody axe.

Those were the days.

This one is also a quite funny section, but maybe you already knew it. :-) One can easily spend way too much time there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:BAD

Looking through the history of your article, I don't see that anyone ever posted a speedy delete or articles for deletion template at the top of your page. This is the normal procedure for nominating an article for deletion. Are you absolutely sure it was ever up for deletion? A link to the deletion discussion would be nice.

Sorry, I didn't go back far enough. It seems that this incident was from July. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Asa_Dotzler
