firefox on vista

I've been running Firefox on Vista (on my Vista desktop and with BootCamp on my MBP,) without incident. How about you? Are you encountering problems on Vista?

Set to default web browser don't work fine...

haven't noticed any Vista-specific issues in 5 months of running Vista as primary OS

Haven't had any issues here.

It seems many have problems with Firefox and Windows Media Player (a new plugin is out, but not well known to average joe). Other than that, I haven't seen to much in regards to problems.

My only issue is the well-known inability to make Firefox the REAL default browser in Vista. Other than that... smooth sailing here.

No problems too, but I hate the default skin in Vista...

The only "problem" I've had is that the File, Save Page As dialog comes up with the top-left corner at the top-left position of the browser window, not the center of the screen, like most apps do.

I don't have any real showstopper problems, but the application is not themed right: There are no animations in the Toolbars or the ProgressBars. The edges of Tooltips are not correctly rounded.

I found that flash wouldn't install, I had to install it by hand (which meant two downloads of the flash player.)

But Firefox works great. I like :-)

@Derick: This problem has been fixed since Firefox 2.0.0.1. You just go to Start, and load up Default Programs (either by searching for it or going to the Control Panel). Click on "Set your default programs" and Firefox will be on the list.

My Firefox in Vista has crashed almost once a day. Good all my tabs are restored every time, so I've been living with it fine.

On the rare occasion it crashes, Vista looks for a "solution" and always tells me there is a newer version available on the Mozilla website. I always have the latest version.

I've had no problem with Firefox on Vista either. Been as stable as can be.
I forget which V2 I'm running (next to latest I believe). Couldn't get it to
work with WMP as a plug-in (no big deal, as going external lets me change the
size of the pictures :-) ).

I happen to like the default theme (perhaps I'm a ludite?).

Once-in-awhile clicking on an email link will bring up IE, but mostly I get
Firefox.

I haven't had any actual problems exactly, but Firefox has been fairly slow on some sites, especially javascript-heavy applications like Google Reader & Gmail. IE7 on these sites is always snappy. I'm not going to switch because of this, it's just annoying.

@Daniel: Yeah... I've tried that. And it says that Firefox "has all of its defaults". But other programs still open Internet Explorer despite me having set Firefox as the default. Thunderbird seems to be the only program that honors my default setting.

For those who are having problems in making firefox default:

try to reinstall firefox with the installer, it's the installer that adds voices to the registry to make firefox default systema application for urls... i had the same problem because i had upgraded from previous version. Then i installed last version from the installer in the same folder and BANG! default program

I can't use my middle button to open link, in new tab.
Only the little circle with arrows that let me scroll around appears.

Firefox suddenly refuses to load. I have it on my taskbar and it worked fine until today.

Researching the problem....

Posted by: Bill P. | July 18, 2007 6:20 AM

Interesting ... I can load it as admin (I have 2.0.0.4), but not as a user.

Posted by: Bill P. | July 18, 2007 6:25 AM

@Marco I tried that and even changed the two defaults IE had to Firefox and when I click my email in trillian it goes to IE where on my XP machine it loads up firefox. I just don't know.

@Bill P. I had something similar happen to my last week. Firefox was loaded in Task Manager but not open and when I tried to open it, more occurrences came up. I think I did a system restore and got it to work again.

I just migrated from a Toshiba M200 running to a Fujitsu T4220 running Vista.

I have this odd thing with the browser window. It's as if it's in some sort of Widescreen mode with a large (~1 inch) gray area under the browser. It's completely empty except way on the left there is a ^ symbol in red.

It might be that the new laptop is higher resolution, but the mail window doesn't have this odd blank space. It looks as if the browser window is sized wrong.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Steven

bought new HP pavilion but the internet ran increasingly slowly until it stopped. HP customer support advised me to uninstall Firefox and use Explorer. That fixed the problem. Thought Mr Gates wasn't allowed to bundle his browser into his operating system??
