community development in brazil and argentina

As part of our ongoing efforts to empower the scores of active Mozilla communities around the globe, JT Batson and I will be traveling to South America. Right now we're confirmed for Brazil and Argentina and are considering Chile as well.

We intend to host at least one full day of discussions and presentations in each city and if we can make it happen, a second day for for some kind of social event and/or meeting with folks who share and can help promote the Mozilla mission of preserving choice and innovation on the web.

We're looking to those of you who can attend to help us fill out the agenda. So, if you're in or around Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paolo city, (or Campinas or Sao Carlos) Brazil, or Buenos Aires, Argentina and you'd like to participate in community development meetings or other discussions, please let me know.

Here's our tentative schedule.

Thursday, June 21st in Rio de Janeiro: Community Development gathering, probably at a hotel conference space, unless someone local has a better location.

Friday the 22nd in Rio de Janeiro: Meeting with individuals active in other open source projects or initiatives, friends of Mozilla, or others we should get to know.

Monday the 25th in Sao Carlos: Social gathering for Mozilla contributors.

Tuesday the 26th in Sao Carlos: Presentation and Community Development gathering at University of Sao Paulo campus branch and/or Federal University of Sao Carlos.

Wednesday the 27th in Sao Paolo city: Community Development gathering, at hotel conference space or university campus.

Thursday 28th in Sao Paolo city: Social gathering for Mozilla contributors and meetings with friends/partners/floss advocates, others we should get to know.

Monday, July 2nd in Beunos Aires: Community Development gathering, probably at hotel conference space.

Tuesday, July 3rd in Beunos Aires: Social gathering for Mozilla contributors and other FLOSS participants.

The Sao Carlos and Sao Paolo city dates may rotate, and we may spend a day or part of a day in Campinas.

Some of the things that we're interested in doing include providing updates on the state of the Mozilla project (and Firefox 3) meeting and working to strengthen local advocacy and marketing groups, meeting with and figuring out what we can do to help user support groups, meeting and establishing relationships with web developers, extension developers and other partners for a free and open web.
