How to make search suck: present users with a tag cloud.

Just tested it, and I must say it's worth a try.

The cloud sucks, but showing you related keywords is HUGE. Imagine you are too poor to buy 'holiday cornwall' pay per click advertising in google, or yahoo. But you find by searching quintra that 'holiday cornwall newquay' has the same number of searches but is half the price? You advertise on that, save a ton of money and get more traffic.

SEOs and DIY SEOs are gunna love this puppy.

note how searching for 'firefox' in quintra = 0 results.

I like the idea very much. searching for "firefox" results in 90400000 matches. where's the problem?

Not too bad. Hover the mouse over one of the results and a new Cloud will appear with that Result as the Parent.

Depends on the use. This "sucks" for quickly finding out the answer to something straight forward, but as the other posters here mention, if your looking, researching or intent on connecting pieces of information.. in other words really *searching* for something- this might have merits. I think the implementation could be a little smoother, but the idea isn't bad at all.

are you kidding, this is great idea..... the execution could be a little better the the concept is awesome

I agree with the commenters. The problem here isn't the concept, it's the Web 1.9 approach used. Add some eyecandy and more interactivity and you've got yourself a nice piece of information. Reminds me of that Google graphing applet some guy cooked up a while ago. Anyone got the URL handy?

eeck.. i'd say less eye candy, keep it simple yet pack it with plenty of features..

seems like an excellant idea..

I tried to search. I don't understand how it's supposed to work. I searched for "tag clouds are stupid" and I got so much weird stuff. This is an awful idea and an awful presentation.
