Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity passes the 1000 sol mark on Mars.
In other Martian news, MER Spirit helped the newest arrival, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, to test out its Electra UHF relay. MRO will be a key relay for current and future Mars terrestrial missions.
But all is not well in the skies above Mars. The oldest orbiter there, Mars Global Surveyor, which has just celebrated 10 years in orbit (originally scheduled for just 2) is not talking to us. This craft, which carries the amazing Mars Orbital Camera, (responsible for nearly a quarter million photos so far,) went silent last week and NASA's recently enlisted the MRO to look for it.
