Asa Dotzler: Firefox and more

October 11, 2006

party people!

Firefox 2 is just around the corner and it's time to start planning those parties!!!

Head over to the Firefox Party Tool and register to host or attend a party today. Be the first in your country or state. Be the biggest in your town or on your block. Take it to the streets and sidewalks (but make sure that's legal first :)

To help with the festivities, we're going to be setting up a party central shop at the Mozilla Store (coming in a few days.) We'll use the store to help us deliver party goods (shirts and other swag) to everyone partying. The bigger and more exciting the party, the more we'll deliver. So start the planning now and get everyone you know registered to attend the celebration!

A huge thanks to Ryan Flint for building the awesome new Firefox Pary tool and to Reed Loden for getting it up and running. You guys rock!

It would be nice if the location window worked. I can't get it to work properly in FF 1.5.0.7, Seamonkey 1.0.4, Inertnet Exploder 6.1+ or Opera 9.0.

It appears to be a problem with the google maps api(?) as not all the map blocks will display.

no tellin, I'm not seeing that problem with Firefox 1.5.0.x, Firefox 2 RC, IE 6 or IE7 Beta.

very sad to see firefox 2.0 with no "New Tab" button by default like Opera and IE7. Seems such a waste not exposing this. I guess it'll be another year or so before that happens?

Despite this, I hope the release will be a success.

So, how do we get an invite to the Mozilla World Headquarters party you are hosting? :)

Posted by: Melissa | October 12, 2006 4:13 PM

I'll party once all memory leaks are fixed ;)
(I don't think it's time for the final Firefox 2 until they are fixed)

Ditto on what Melissa said :-]. I live just a couple miles away and hanging out with Firefox users/devs sounds like a blast.

If that's not possible, I might be able to arrange a party at Cuesta or another nearby park. Any chance to still get some swag even though 50 people have already registered as hosts.

I'll fourth that. I'd trade the best party I can imagine for product stability.

I decided to host my own party at Cuesta park after all

Good thinking there George. I'll try to make it.

We know this. The problem is the masses don't. We can also customize the toolbar & add a button. The masses shouldn't have to do this, though, so I hope they change the default install soon.

Asa, I believe you once mentioned sending Mozilla Engineers to parties. I think that would be really cool, is this still a plan?

Posted by: nathaniel | October 13, 2006 9:20 AM

I probably don't have the party here.

Can't find GMT+13 which equates to New Zealand Daylight Saving Time (NZDT). Other than that, cool tool.

i was going to refrain from ranting about firefox but sence so many people got into this topic.. i'm kind of sad that firefox still doesn't show working tooltips for links, the bug (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45375) is over 6 or so years old and has yet to be fixed.. i have so many other things on my mind so i cant think of what other things were bugging me that havent been fixed yet

anyways..

see you guys at the part i'll be in the bananna suit.. (as usual)

How to delete all cookies in Firefox on closing, EXCEPT for those from selected domains!
http://mungobah.blogspot.com/2006/09/how-to-delete-all-cookies-in-firefox-on.html
Firefox doesn’t seem to have a ‘Delete all cookies except the following’ feature under a fancy button entitled ‘Delete all cookies except the following feature’. But here is the way to do it without installing any add-ins or extensions

I just don't have much to say recently. Such is life. I've basically been doing nothing. Basically nothing seems worth bothering with. Oh well.
