firefox 2, yes, tuesday
Lots of folks have been sending me emails asking if the Tuesday release reported at various places is accurate. Yes. Unless something unexpected happens, we'll be shipping Firefox 2 on Tuesday.

reactions, thoughts, comments, etc.
So, does this mean that 20061010 becomes final and all us non-RC3 people have nothing to download?
Just wanted to confirm, since Microsoft has kind-of botched up my idea of "Release Candidate" :)

I can't wait. When under Windows I've been using IE7 exclusively for a week to write a review of it (can't use it on Mac or Linux obviously). I'll be glad to get back to Firefox for my day to day browsing. I've been using 2.0 since the betas and I'm mostly happy with the improvements (barring the new theme which ain't too bad on Windows but I replaced with pinstripe on the Mac).
IE7 is a nice improvement over IE6 but still has some catching up to do.

Cool. Kind of impatient though to wait that long :-D

You can hide the Menu Bar in IE7, this should be a default option in Firefox 2 as well.

"You can hide the Menu Bar in IE7, this should be a default option in Firefox 2 as well."
Correction - an OPTION. Not a default option, but an Option none the less. Hiding the menu bar by default is silly as many people won't know where it's gone or how to get it back.

Who would ever use Internet Explorer? Version 7 STILL doesn't support all of HTML ... it still is missing the Q element. What the &%$#!?!

Anonymous Coward... You're kidding, right? This is worse than I thought... IE needs a rewrite, and it needs it now. They should fork the code, double the numbers of coders, and while one half is working on another disappontment (IE8) the other half can start from scratch on what will become IE9. (Or skip a number and make IE X.

Sorry, everyone. I tend to think of the least obvious options first. This is a lovely blog we seem to have set up while I wasn't checking. I won't read if no one agrees not to tell me first. Sound mysterious? I think this should be one riddle we all get to solve together. I'm using my sister's computer, so I can't write for too long. But I'm safe at home and very happy and missing everyone very much! AND TODAY, I HEAR, IS INTERNATIONAL CAPSLOCK DAY. IS THERE SOME NEWS I'M SUPPOSED TO BE SHARING? ;=)

Chloe I think you got the wrong blog.

I don't get a word of what you're saying anyway, that's for sure.

Point taken. Point taken. Match point! Neil, my sister would like to see a picture. Please send one to ckitzinger@gmail.com. And of course I'm slow. We all know that have no spacial sense at all.

I'm going to check e-mail again tomorrow. By then, I expect pictures of everyone. My parents and Bice want to look too!

I'm thinking she meant to post to my blog; I linked to this post earlier today.
But on the subject at hand - really looking forward to Firefox 2.0. Been using the alphas and betas and I can't wait to encourage my friends to upgrade. Most already use 1.5 and will probably appreciate things like spellchecking and the phishing filter.

I just switched to RC3 and only half of my extensions are working (without using Nightly Tester Tools). I hope there's going to be a big extension push in the next few days ^_-;

umm, you ever hear what happened to Netscape?

Anyone know if Google Adsense Product referral's will contain Firefox 2.0?
Posted by: Tom G | October 23, 2006 1:21 PM
Will I still need to use Nightly Tester Tools in the final version of Firefox 2 to use Add-Ons meant for Firefox 1.5?

"umm, you ever hear what happened to Netscape?"
Very much so. But they have no other choice now. If they'd got started on this five years back it wouldn't have been such a big deal. Now they'll have to shoot themselves in the foot (again).

I absolutely agree with David Naylor, IE really needs a complete rewrite.
But I think they will never do this, and the Web will continue to suffer from domination of the Micro$oft World's Worst Browser. This is the politics from Micro$oft: it is easier to make IE just look better (e.g. like Firefox, by adding tabs, search bar, and rss), than to make IE standard-compliant.
Many older ordinary (non-tech) people just CAN'T DIFFERENTIATE Firefox and IE7.
There are people like my managing director, who just love IE6, he says it is simple, and he doesn't need anything more advanced. And he also said, IE is faster (he doesn't care WHY it is faster - because of wrong page rendering and security absence). He also think that flash-driven website is good (he doesn't know, that it is impossible for search engines to index such website, and it also isn't accessible via mobile browsers, WAP, WebTV, and it is unable to print it on the paper).
Many lame users don't understand WHY we need a new technologies in internet, and WHY IE is the main thing, slowing down web evolution.

Firefox already has that option: userChrome.css
