cat routines

It's been a while since I blogged about Ptolemy, our 7 and a half year old female siamese. Deanna and I have been noting her morning routine for some time and today I wanted to ask any of you all with cats if you see the same kind of predictable patterns.

Ptolemy sleeps on Deanna's legs most nights. Her waking routine is this: First she yawns and turns on her side to do that full body cat stretch. Then she starts to clean her face and sits up to extend the cleaning to her chest and upper legs. Then she hops off of Deanna's legs, off the bed, and walks down the hall to begin her morning rounds.

This is her morning routine. It's nothing terribly interesting except that it happens exactly the same way, almost without exception, every day. We've gotten to speaking the routine to each other as it happens. "Strehhhhhtch.... yaaaaawn.... OK, now clean your face...." etc.

So, what are some of your cat's routines?

reactions, thoughts, comments, etc.

My cat's morning routine consists of sleeping on my legs and then running to the kitchen when he realizes he's going to be fed.

Pretty boring, really.

Ptolemy is a great name, btw.

My two cats wake me up ten minutes before my alarm is set to go off every morning, then lead me into the bathroom, sit idly by while I take my shower, and then lead me to the kitchen where I feed them. Then they go and lay down on my bed where I should be laying to prevent me from going back to bed. Thoughtful, really. The surprising thing is that they both do all of it together, pretty predictably.

My cat's routines?

Well, let's see. There's sleep(), clean(), eat(), poop(), and psycho(). She's got a very nice API.

due to some changes in my life (moved in to my dad's apartment), haven't had the chance to see a cat's morning routine... but if I recall correctly, my cat did it the same way (almost)...

as I sleep face-down, Simba (my cat) slept on my back... he was the one waking me up all mornings... he stood up, stretch, walked on my back in circles, stretch again, and when Simba began to "bath" it was like earthquake for me... lol... my cat... happy memories...

Justin: nice! lmao...

Hmm, my cat is 7 or 8 years old. She isn't predictable in any way, though. I suppose not all cats are equal, just like not every human's equal. Don't worry much about it.

My cat will do things pretty consistently. She wakes up first about an hour before I have set the alarm, and does her thing in the rest of the apartment. This may include using the litter, which she usually meows after using it, sometimes waking me up. But then, she will typically go back to sleep near my face, where she originally goes to sleep every night, waiting for me to wake up. Sometimes she will start purring like crazy walking around me and the pillow when she is especially hungry. Somehow she seems to know when it is the weekend, because she lets me sleep as late as I want.

Then, during my shower, she will patiently wait outside one of the doors to my bathroom.

And I don't know how she knows this, but she could be sleeping (a cat sleeping, what a surprise) in the other room, and I have to do is lie in the bed, and without fail within a minute or two, she will be on my bed with me.

Well Musta needs exercise in morning, so when dawn is there (and we are asleep) Must runs everywhere as fast as she can, plays with everything and makes a lot of noise. The less food there is in the bowl, the more busy she is.

Nickadamious sleeps on our bed, and makes a small morning round to return and claim a spot on my chest. I know this, since Musta woke me up already. Luckily we are entering the "dark" times now, and we can get some sleep ;o)

Interesting pet comments. Sorry I don't have a cat, but felt like chiming in anyway. I have a dog and I notice the weird sleeping thing too. When my dog sleeps, he seems to be aware of what's happening around him. If I move, or anything in the room rustles like it might be food (he knows which sounds might mean food), he wakes up and either relocates or acts accordingly, and if needed falls asleep again quickly. So, if I'm in the living room and he sleeps there nearby. I get up and move to the bedroom, and even if I tip-toe like a ninja, he'll still notice it and move with me, to again, sleep nearby. It's as if he doesn't sleep at all. I have *almost( never found my dog to be unconscious in sleep, even in the dead of night. It does happen sometimes, but very rarely.

This is very unlike me. When I sleep, cannons and earthquakes can be going off, and I won't wake up.

Well, my cat sleeps at the end of my bed. He wakes me up almost every day 1 minute before my alarm goes off by pawing me in the face. Once I wake up, he walks over me and jumps off my bed where he does his stretch. After I get off the bed, he bolts downstairs and to the basement where I keep his food. After that, he goes back up stairs to sleep on the couch for the rest of the day :D
