These ad campains are a good idea, and look fun but... I agree with ant, I'm starting to believe mozilla is the new 'open source' microsoft.. because it doesn't seem like standards are your main priority anymore.. and I guess 'Spreading the word' is??

Since everyone is lambasting you guys for using a format that requires the quicktime plugin.. I'd just like to say that it is my preferred way of viewing embedded video :). Thanks. If theora is as bad for video as ogg is for audio (in terms of % of people who can actually view it), then please don't make it the default!

I'm not commenting on Asa's blog in order to provoke someone into throwing logical fallacies at me. I'm just stating the fact that the type of people who we want seeing these videos online are more likely to be able to view them through a proprietary format. Let's face it - the only people who want these videos in an obscure open source format are almost certainly already using Firefox.

Sure, provide them in other formats - but keep the default to something that the majority of our target audience will be able to view.

like Flash Video or mpeg. Please dont use .mov. Reasons:
. Its far away of a standard,
. Firefox can't autoinstall the Quicktime plugin
. Quicktime is a "difficult" format for Linux users.

Cool video, but please refrain from embedding video. Firefox (on Windows anyway) effectively freezes while the plug-in loads up.

What, ActiveX and QuickTime ? From a browser that shuns ActiveX ?

No one in their right mind uses QuickTime unless they want to give all settings on the PC to the bloated piece of crap QT. QT does not, nor will it ever live on machine.

Please, stop using Quicktime and release the movies in MPEG or whatever format usable by most computer users. Even if the campaign was aimed at windows and mac users only (which I hope it isn't).

One might be surprised, how many windows users refue to install iTunes just for playing Quicktime-files.

you dont need itunes.. you just need plugins which can play, like quicktime alternatives.. or *sigh* quicktime

i dont think they will change.. it's been what.. more then 2 weeks, i guess asa either doesnt have control over the content, doesn't read his blog comments, or just doesn't care.. no matter how many users plea.. reminds me of that bug i submited which is over 6 years old, and still no fix (tool tips) still not working.

In my opinion, the best video format these days is no doubt Flash Video.

Call me dumb, but I think Quicktime is a great format. These vids aren't too good for streaming on my connection, but they are downloadable, and the quality's fairly good for the size.

download.com and other sites hiding their flash videos so you cannot download them is terribly annoying, like Masqurade said. I still haven't found a 'fix' to download flash videos off download.com. Does anybody know a Firefox extension?

Back on-topic, this video is the best video I've seen promoting Firefox. Absolutely stunning piece of work. Congrats to the authors!
