mozilla international store
Living in Europe (or closer to Europe than you are to the US?) Well, today the Mozilla International Store opens for business. It's brand new, and still in beta, so please let us know if you find any problems (I don't think you will.)
If you've been waiting to purchase Mozilla or Firefox (or Thunderbird) merchandise because the shipping costs from the US store were just too steep, now's the time to get that gear!
Thanks to Marcia Knous for all of her hard work getting this thing up and running. Check out her blog for more information on the new store.
update: well, I guess I was a bit quick and jumped the gun here. The International Store is currently offline and won't be back until Monday. Give it a try then.
update2: and it's back up!
reactions, thoughts, comments, etc.
i was doing a little price comparision and http://store.mozilla.org/product.asp?catid=1&Code=MZ82003

aswith: I agree, something seems wrong with the book prices in general. I will look into that right away. If you want a comp copy of Nigel's book, I will send it to you.
As far as the MS IE page, I will look into that as well.

Its not the IE not found page, but rather the IIS not found page. Store.mozilla.org is on a server provided by GatewayCDI, which runs Windows 2003/IIS6. Which makes sense, since the site is written in ASP.

It's been a long time since I last checked the store and I was a little surprized. What happened to the plush toys? They were the main reason an intl store should open :)
Did they cost too much to produce? Or was it an exclusivity from the former operator?
Oh, and the intl store, which runs on Apache/PHP, shows good plain old 404s when typing a random URL in the address bar, that's "great" :P

Shipping prices are nightmare...
Posted by: nick | December 11, 2005 6:27 AM
Yeah, I agree with Dominik. would be the default currency for the largest part of your visitors.
£ = GB = 60 million
= Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain = Many many people

We europeans don't need a store. We need the update for our FF RC2 (de) to the RC3/Final version!!!
The updates are avaiable since one week:
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.5/update/linux-i686/
But the update.xml file will not work correctly!
I have nearly 15 FF RC2 l10n installations by friends. For my parents I downloaded the full version and did an uninstall of RC2. Works fine, but makes no sense for all installations!
How long do we have to wait for the update?

Wow, when I entered I couldnt believe it... prices in British Pounds!!!
So you can change the display to Euros... but shouldnt it be default???
The Euro is the European coin, this is almost offensive the the rest of us.
Euros should be default, even if you expect more purchases within UK.

Dominik, the United Kingdom > England :)
The prices should be in euros by default if it's too hard to show the most appropriate currency based on the visitor's location.
Other things now I've got your attention:

A few answers to your questions:
(1) I will have our vendor make the switch so that the default is Euros instead of Pounds.
(2) I am not sure what will happen with the plush toys. They were carryoverse from our former store and did not sell well when we launched the new store. If there is demand then we will consider bringing them back.
(3) The Laptop backback that is sold at the International store will accommodate a 12" iBook. It can fit up to a 15" laptop.

I thought that the international store would cut shipping costs. As an example I added the "Firefox Laptop Backpack" to my shopping cart. This is about 60 euro. Standard I get a 74.89 UPS-cost. When I provide my location I get an additional 30.70. My subtotal would be 132 euro for a Backpack of under 60 euro ?
But finally I understood that one should _choose_ a shipping method. Could one please make that clear to the visitor ? The label above it could say "Choose a shipping method" and perhaps some additional information about the various choices.
Will there also be localized Mozilla-stores ? I guess that would make it more convenient for people to shop in their native language.
An affiliate-program would also be nice (if the Mozilla store does not have that already) for sites promoting Mozilla-merchandise in return for a referral-fee or Mozilla-goodies.

Responding to the comment regarding the book prices:
Book prices are different the world over due to many things including
regulations. Most countries in the EU have different VAT rates for books
ranging from 0% in the UK to 25% in Denmark.
The Firefox Hacks book for example has a list price of £17.50 in the UK, I
believe this is written on the book itself. List price in the US is
$24.95.

I just noticied something yesterday. When you download a copy of firefox, a link to the store is presented underneath but this links to store.mozilla.org. If I download a localisation outside en-us, should it link to the international store?

Kroc: store.mozilla.org has a landing page that allows you to select either the North/South America store or the International Store (Other Regions)
