it's intentional

The color change (or rather, color removal) was intentional.

Thanks a lot! I was scrambling to find out what the he** happened to my Firefox. The Moon, color changes. You're just havin' WAY TOO MUCH FUN. :)

Hmm, the colour scheme is beter. Much cleaner. The site looks a little weird being off to the left, though. :-)

It took me a while to figure out what you were talking about ... until I did a Shift+Reload and found that you changed your CSS.

Posted by: Robert Morris | November 13, 2005 9:16 PM

Why??

Posted by: Alex Pick | November 13, 2005 9:23 PM

*squinting*

You don't find the high contrast a tad harsh on the eyes Asa? ^^;

Posted by: Limulus | November 13, 2005 9:25 PM

Eeeee, too much white background... It's hurting my eyes.

Posted by: GamingFox | November 13, 2005 9:34 PM

Sorry mate, not a big fan of this. The lefthandside looks very odd when you're just viewing one entry (not the frontpage.)

Posted by: Cameron | November 13, 2005 10:01 PM

Yeah, the front page looks cool, but the individual posts are a bit too... nothing. Something on the left, even a black rectangle, would give some balance to the design.

Posted by: Jorge | November 13, 2005 10:05 PM

I wish you'd allow viewers to use the alternate stylesheet functionality of your product, so those who don't like the new version of the site would be free to view their preferred style.

I looked around some time and asked me, who died? Even the links are black. The blue backgrounds are very pale, Idont like this, it looks too simple - while the css isn't.

Posted by: Klaus P. Kuhlemann | November 13, 2005 11:24 PM

Looks like im the dissenter here because I like it. Its simple and simple is always better than overkill.

Though I do agree with Jorge, it does need a little balance on the left, maybe a black and white Fx logo, or even a rectangle as he suggested would make it look even better.

did somebody die?

:(

Posted by: testboy | November 14, 2005 5:28 AM

I'm with Limulus, the high contrast has permanently burned this blog's image into my retinas I think...

Posted by: Jon Henry | November 14, 2005 5:29 AM

Yep, sorry, but over here probably everyone who drops in would suggest somebody died.

Posted by: dex_sf | November 14, 2005 7:42 AM

wow, that's really annoying...

is there some reason you chose this?

gotta go soak my burning eyes now...

Posted by: jeff wilkinson | November 14, 2005 8:07 AM

Anything but this!

Posted by: bob | November 14, 2005 9:11 AM

What is this with developers these days I see alot of them removing all te colour.
It is ugly IMHO. Perhaps because they get used looking at black-on-white but it hurts 'normal' peoples eyes.

Posted by: Joël Kuiper | November 14, 2005 9:32 AM

The old style was much more pleasant to look at.

Posted by: Kob | November 14, 2005 3:43 PM

yes.. has anyone stared at a WHITE screen in the middle of the night.. its like staring at a lightbulb!

Posted by: toma_lactate | November 14, 2005 4:37 PM

Please put the old stylesheet as an alternate... so much nicer. :)

Posted by: backpack | November 14, 2005 6:25 PM

Hm. I rather like it. Then again, I also prefer a DOS-based IDE, so my opinions probably aren't those of the majority.

Posted by: Jweb_Guru | November 14, 2005 8:24 PM

The greyish background on the comments looks better, thanks :)

Are you going to put something in the space on the left at some point?

Also, the comment area at the bottom cuts across the black line (in FF 1.0.7; haven't tested it in 1.5) and thus looks a little odd...

Out of curiosity, what made you decide to change it?

Posted by: Limulus | November 14, 2005 9:43 PM

Love it. I'm a fan of monochromatic and greyscale themes.

Posted by: Sean Jodrey | November 14, 2005 11:58 PM

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally. Something that doesn't make my eyes bleed.

What you did before was cruel and unusual to the reader. ;-)

Posted by: Robert Accettura | November 15, 2005 7:17 AM

I'm not a fan. I may offer my opinion but I'll also offer a solution: Want any help making a new one? I'd be glad to take a stab at it for you.

Cheers! ~ Kevin

one word. color. I wont be visiting this blog until then.

Posted by: dj_mc_tushy | November 15, 2005 10:13 AM

@testboy: Yep, it looks like someone died. That was my first thought, too! But there is also good news: my German Firefox updated!!!

Posted by: Tobias | November 15, 2005 2:08 PM

Asa, DUDE!!! What were you thinking? This is enough to make loyal readers switch to IE, just to avoid following this blog.

BTW, your complimentary membership to the Museum of Modern Art has been revoked!

Posted by: Sander | November 15, 2005 2:38 PM

I think it looks nice, though it does need some improvements -- like there's no space between the comments and the edge of the grey box. Also, the individual post pages need the sidebar. Also also, the black bar is a little much compared to the nice light grey. It's too big a difference.

Posted by: Peng | November 15, 2005 6:55 PM

Asa! Are you nuts? Hopefully firefox won't take a turn for the worst like this blog did - the orange firefox backround was classy. White hurt my eyes, grey looks amateurish. c'mon Asa think of the fans. Change it back!

Posted by: rusty | November 15, 2005 7:51 PM

asa this makes it harder to read thinsg cvant tell when comments end and when comments start, hopefully you were just "trying" something different.

Posted by: sdfsfsd | November 15, 2005 8:50 PM

Has Asa gone color blind? or is this a form of torture for your blog fans. 0_0

Just kidding Asa :p

Posted by: Steve | November 15, 2005 10:26 PM

Uh, you removed all the things that made the blog instantaneously recognisable. Perhaps you could at least offer an alternative view with the old colors...

Posted by: Danny | November 16, 2005 2:49 PM

Dear Asa, as a fan and frequent reader I respectfully and humbly ask that you provide the previous CSS template as a page style option.

But such as this being your personal space I very much respect your choice of doing whatever you prefer.

I kinda like the white, but you know I just kinda miss the old orange, blue, brown, yellow, and green. I personally found it intriguing that the apparently clashing choice of colors just seem to pleasantly... work.

Posted by: Lemi4 aka. fERDI:) | November 17, 2005 9:26 PM

Oh and BTW I forgot to add above that I kinda like the white, despite the cliched overuse of modernistic minimalism everywhere, and not just on the web.

But don't trust me; my design philosophy is foundationed upon an amateuristic reinterpretation of chaos theory :p

I'm so happy you changed your color scheme. The other one was so bright that it was hard to look at and then my eyes felt like they were glowing for another 15 minutes after I looked away. :)
