firefox 1.5 rc2 swiftly approaching
We learned of a couple of serious issues with our update system when we shipped Firefox 1.5 RC1. Thanks to everyone who tested and gave feedback. In addition to fixing some issues in udpate, we also took some changes related to security bullet-proofing and a few last-minute fixes for things like updating the credits list and getting our bookmarks file updated. These fixes will go out in a Firefox 1.5 RC2 this Friday if all goes well and we could use some help testing the builds before then. Please grab one of the builds below and if you run into problems, let me know in the comments here. As always, please let me know what OS you're on if you are experiencing difficulties with this build.

AWESOME. I can't wait for the final version of Firefox 1.5 to come out. Just as cool is that most of the major extensions (Adblock, Web Developer Toolbar) are 1.5-ready. I've been using RC1 for a while now and it has only the doesn't-remember-my-passwords problem (which doesn't cause crashes or anything "fatal" like that).

I don't know how serious a bug this is, but yesterday I noticed Bug 315623 - Highlight all can not be undone if tab switched
should this be fixed before 1.5? I just noticed this so it may be a recent regression.

ok never mind, I'm told it appears in 1.0.7 so it should be fine to ship in this release and fix later.

Well I have had all most all the ff versions. This one {2005110712} renders web pages a little slower and in a stranger fashion than the last version right before RC1. I had problems using my old profile in RC1. This 2005110712 version is fine on the profile issue. Auto updating has never worked for me. Period. I use WinXP home SP2 w. mcafee and zone alarm 4.0
Also when I go to an overloaded website I get the error "server not found" or "connection timed out" which is fine but when I hit the try again button and the site is still oveloaded then the win xp notification comes up and says "local area connection..network cable unplugged". I recall one of the other deer park versions doing this then it went away. I restart ff and the problem goes away. Only happens when I go to a website that is down or overloaded.
I dont have any connection problems.

Please see this annoying bug:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=315526
"Ctrl + pgup or pgdown to switch tabs doesn't work in an input field"
on 1.0.7 worked, but on 1.5 not anymore!

Just downloaded the new build (Mac) and was trying it out tonight when I got it to crash so seriously it won't even restart..
I was at a webmail login at the time, hit [Enter] after typing in my login credentials, and Firefox quit, bringing the Talkback client up. Okay... I entered the crash details, sent the report, and tried to start up Firefox again, with no luck.
Now, every time I try to start Firefox, I receive the "Application Quit Unexpectedly" OS X error.
OS Version: 10.4.3 (Build 8F46)
Command: firefox-bin
Path: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin
Parent: WindowServer [61]
Version: 1.5 (1.5)

I continue to have restart problems. I described the problem in Bug 313764 Comment 22, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=313764#c22, and on Peter's forum but there has been no response. I guess it's not that big a deal since updates are installed after several restarts.

Password saving seems to be at least partly broken in RC1 -- sites that in the past, with 1.07, remembered my password now need to be told it each time.

There are some confirmed bugs with blocking1.8rc2? which seem serious...

I've been using 1.5 since a few weeks before beta1. I've auto updated my way from beta 1 to RC1. It's been rock solid so far. I appreciate the finishing touch you guys have been putting on what I've considered to be release worthy since beta2.
At work, I've switched as well. I use the browser there to test our javascript/css heavy CMS. That leaves absolutely no room for browser bugs to interfere with the testing work and I'm glad to report that Firefox 1.5 has not done so so far (compared to 1.0). Upgrading to 1.5 will be smooth transition for our customers.

Asa,
In RC1, when the Privacy "Remember filled in forms and search data" option is OFF and the "Remember Passwords" option is ON, the passwords are NEVER remembered.
My understanding is they should still be on, and passwords & usersnames should still be remembered. Just other information in other forms / search boxes shouldn't.
Don't know if that's fixed in RC2. I'll be sure to check, however, once RC2 is officially released & I have time to install it.

In Help, Mozilla Firefox Keyboard Shortcuts, F6 is described as both "Move to Next Frame" and "Select Location Bar". Seems confusing.
As well, when trying to answer "will the REAL Mr. F6 please stand up?", I got a browser crash simply by flipping back and forth between F6 and SHIFT-F6. (But that's another issue...)

Just been notified of the internal update to RC2, and it all went off without a hitch.
