firefox hits one hundred million downloads

In less than one year (344 days, 17 hours, and 14 minutes, to be precise,) Firefox has been downloaded 100,000,000 times. Wow!

The number of downloads will not matter much in future, since we will have incremetal update in action. So, what is the direction of the counter? Will it track only full downloads?

Asa: just FYI, that works out to slightly more than 290 K downloads per day since 1.0 was released :)

VeeKi: The counter never counted upgrades (e.g. 1.0.6 -> 1.0.7) only direct downloads.

Is this just the downloads from the main site, or does it count nightlies as well?

Don't the update-check/phonehome give you some indication of how many (active) users you have? Some company/campus wide instalation will probably have disabled it, but wouldn't it give some number that would in some way be meaning full (or at least as meaning full as downloads)?

But hey, congrants on the milestone.

By the way, I saw a video from the openoffice.org conference, about some experiments where they did some test porting the interface to xul. It looked pretty interesting. So I thought, since FireFox is the primary delivery vericle for the xul runtime, will you be doing some bundeling? :)

No! updates dont count, downloading multiple times, neither does nightlies, they only count downloads on their main page from various sources. if they did it would have reached 100,000,000 months ago.

Asa, you don't sound very enthuastic about the 100,000,000 mark, all this anticipation and not much of "happY happY, joY joY" just "wow", have you lost your since of arrogance, or atleast you should have it after having a product so freaking successful, or is it just you don't want to sound arrogant and keep your cool but really your jumping around and singning for joy, or your just tired, maybe repost this topic and say something more than "wow", I guess it is that overwhealming and the only thing you could do is say wow.

/products/firefox needs updating with the new number :-)

I just wanted to say congrats on the 100,000,000 downloads! I can honestly say that just over 50 of those downloads were mine.

And many can honestly say that they downloaded it one time and installed it on over 50 machines... Not to forget magazine distributions and the like

Cheers to firefox, hear hear.

I'm extremely glad I started using FF when I did. The initial learning curve I was a bit worried about, but I can't even IMAGINE going back to IE now, and it pains me when I am forced to.
