do you like extensions?
If you're a big extension enthusiast and you're looking to get more involved with the Mozilla project, our Addons site is looking for your help:
We are looking for volunteers to help us with UMO. We are in need of PHP developers to help with redesigning the site, and people to review extensions and themes that get submitted to UMO. We especially need Mac and Thunderbird users. If you are interested in being a part of this exciting project, please send information such as your full name, timezone and experience to umo-reviewer@mozilla.org. Also, please join us in #umo on irc.mozilla.org to start getting a feeling for what's up or for a more informal chat.
reactions, thoughts, comments, etc.
Perhaps MozFo should investigate why AMO is still looking for people to help, since such projects normally have more people who want to help than there is needed...

When we will be able to use SVG in Firefox themes?
Regards

Well, I asked some time ago, but I didn't get a reply, so I think they don't need my help.

Talk about help is cheap. Help is not.

...and if you're not a developer, it'd be lovely if you can help extension developers stay ahead of the game by prodding them for updates if your favourite extensions aren't listed as 1.5b or 1.5b2 compatible. Disclaimer: don't do it on AMO, since I don't think any of us appreciate negative reviews due to impatience!

As xeen, I also e-mailed offering my help but received no reply.

@Ben Basson: Having to rate an extension when submitting a comment is the stupiest idea ever. There's no way to contact the author if the extension fails installing if he hasn't provided an email adress (hello spam!) or got his own page. Either way, that's not obvious to see. Hope that will be "fixed" for UMO2

Thanks for this calling.
For example, it is now nearly impossible to get a Mac only Firefox theme on UMO, without a delay of some weeks or months. And is was truly difficult to get them on this site. Likely this was a mistake or misunderstanding.
I always consider to remove the themes completely from UMO and if this situation won't change in the future, they will be removed for sure.
UMO is simple a horrible piece of shit (for Mac Firefox theme developer)

I'd prob contribute a bit to AMO if I had the time... though I've been busy on other stuff.
If only there were more hours in the day...

It would help if you post a more detailed description what a reviewer must do and what are the requirements to do this job. What must I check, when I review an extension ? How long will it take normaly ?

Dear Mr Asa Dotzler
I've been trying really hard to reach you.
The biggest conference organized by Ministry of Information & Communications in Korea, wishes to invite you as a exquisite speaker on 2nd Dec.
Right now, there are tremendous migratons in progress here, thus if you come over and deliver a presentation on Mozila and/or FireFox 1.5, it wouldn't be greater.
I know this proposal is pretty short of time though, please do give us a chance to discuss on this matter. Of course, we would compensate all your travel and time expense. It's really desperate to organize your session here.
Although this conference is not much famous as OSCON, please do consider one more time and let us get inspired with your presentation.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you shortly.
Sincerely yours,
Sonia Park

I dont know why they advertise for help. I have volunteered several times and have never received so much as a "No Thank you we dont need help at this time" from anyone at that organization.

I volunteered once to help with Thunderbird, received a personal welcome mail from Jeff Walden and then I did nothing. Sorry about that.

Sonia, have you tried emailing him from the contact link on the main page of the blog?

I'll glady contribute if needed, and I'm sure that thousands of others would also.

Ken, help certainly is needed! The sooner AMO (as it is) can be ditched, the better for all concerned.
Three things are really, *really* starting to bug me about the current implementation... so much so that I almost dread having to visit.
1. The stupid (often untrue / misguided) comments which are rarely removed at my request, despite skewing the review scores of my extensions (since you _still_ cannot comment without voting, and there's no separate FAQ/contact/support area).
2. If a new version is not compatible with old Firefox builds, AMO still serves them the new version anyway (instead of automatically picking the most recent compatible extension version and informing the user that both Firefox and extension updates are available).
3. Mirror propagation is understandable, but it'd be nice if the listings were held up until the install links actually worked, to save on the feedback that becomes redundant 20 minutes later, but puts people off trying the extension for a much longer time period.

I've never heard of UMO. Is that a programming frame work? Definitions anyone?
