getting close to beta

Looking through our list of Firefox 1.5 beta blockers this morning it appears that all of them have fixes and are in some stage of review or approval so I think we're solidly on track for a release next week.

reactions, thoughts, comments, etc.

Please see this thread: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=312982
With respect to comments about this bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=306827

The changes affect more than the 'classic and luna', its making Winstripe look very UGLY!, tabs height has doubled, menu's are flat and look plain.

Please consider backing off this patch for the release of 1.5.

Thanks

wow!next week! I'll be sure to download it and try it out!

Asa,
Are you sure you want to stop all your beta blockers? We wouldn't want the stress of the 1.5 release to give you a heart attack. ;)

Woohoo!! I'm really looking forward to 1.5! Once it's out of Beta, I'll be able to get more friends and family on board. :-D

@Patrick:

LOL, I don't think most people will get that joke.

Fun factoid: "Some musicians use beta blockers to avoid stage fright and tremor during auditions and performances."

patrick...i thought it was funny :)

sorry, [OT] check this bullshit please

have a nice day

Question:
If I DL and install FF1.5Beta, will I be able to do a 1 click update and get FF1.5(release) when it comes out? Or will I have to remove beta and install non-beta?

What the h**l is Foxie?! That's some crap right there. Ugh. That page is a pretty darn awful rip too. Not that a good rip would be better. The whole thing should be embarrassing to them.

Excited about 1.5. Fantastic. Good vibes and happy waves in your direction.

Curtis, I think it's because some are overreacting with the Firefox fanatism and some are getting disturbed :).
Since a few months I've noticed a "anti Firefox" trend. Some users really don't want to switch and they are happy with IE but Firefox users are starting flames in forums because of this fact so this phenomenon occurs :).

That's not a bad thing, u know what the saying says "it doesn't matter how they know you, it matters that they know YOU"...hehe

Patrick, I thought that was pretty funny too. :)

RE: Foxie
They claim (evidently falsely) that donations go to the MoFo.

Ran, I went to the donation page but did not see that claim.

Well. I see it:
Clicking on the button above will initiate a monthly donation to the Mozilla Foundation. Click here for details on how to end your monthly donation.
Another quote from their Contact page.

If you're interested in contributing money to support the Mozilla Project, there are many ways to donate.

I have nothing against s.b. creating software, even if that software is an IE-plug or similar.

But that project violates copyrights:

The rights in the trademarks, logos, service marks of the Mozilla Foundation, as well as the look and feel of this web site, are not licensed under the Creative Commons license, and to the extent they are works of authorship (like logos and graphic design), they are not included in the work that is licensed under those terms.

And that donation stuff is fraudulent.

Mo*o should go after them, at least asking them to do their own layout and "donate"-texts, and otherwise sue them to hell :p

So, Firefox 1.5 (beta 1) released on Sept 8 ..... not much good for me ... from what I understand .. none of my existing extensions and themes will work until 1.5 version are released. How do you check to see what is available for 1.5? ... and more inportant ... how do you fool 1.5 (beta) to use your 1.x extensions??? ... will I have to bump the max versions of all my extensions to 1.5?

Asa .... how about a comment on getting ready to download 1.5 (beta) .. that explains the solution of getting your existing extensions and themes to work with 1.5 (beta)

later, Richard

That's good.

Really looking forward to this release, good stuff.

Foxie - interesting one. So donations are not going to Mozilla, for sure, right? I've downloaded it and I have to say in all honesty, its really not that bad. Its not ripping of FF, nor are they benefiting in anyway, financially or otherwise. It has a firewall that blocks spyware, worms, spammers etc, tabs, desktop search, all easily used. Thats sure to attract IE users, simply add this on, get far better security and tabs, and some key extensions etc.

Richard,

The Nightly Tester Tools (0.7) now allows you to "make" an extension compatible.

Go to your extension list, right click, and choose "Make compatible" (or something like that).

Re: Getfoxie.com

It's not an issue of whether or not their product is good, the issue is the potentially confusing use of Mozilla marks and trade dress to market their similar product. The deceptive solicitation of donations seemingly on behalf of the Mozilla Foundation being one of the worst possible infringements.

We sent a courtesy notice last last night --- it's what we generally do before referring possible infringements of Mozilla's rights to the project's lawyers, e.g. firefoxoffice.com and others were also handled in this way, without having to resort to a formal cease and desist letter --- and the getfoxie.com site owner has been in touch and is apparently working on addressing our concerns.

We'll look again in 24 to 48 hours and take additional actions as warranted.
