I just picked up U.S. News & World Report - Mysteries of Outer Space, Probing the Secrets of our Universe, a special collector's edition, and I can say it's definitely worth the $5.99 (6.99 Canada). I've skimmed over most of it and read through the first few articles but I've still got a couple of hours' worth of reading to finish out the rest of the 86, uninterrupted by advertising, glossy pages of beautiful photographs, great illustrations and what so far seem to be reasonably well-written articles. There's no new science here but it's easy reading and so far I haven't found any glaring mistakes or obviously confused writers. I'll try to post again when I've finished reading (maybe tomorrow morning) the magazine.
I also just received my October Astronomy in the mail (Galileo crashing into Jupiter on the cover) and, as usual, I've poured over all of the pretty pictures before diving into the news, articles and reviews (though, one of those pictures, of Anchernar the pancake star, did drive me immediately to some reading online.)
