I'm not sure how Scarlet Pruitt managed to get it that wrong. Maybe she defines quarters differently than the rest of us or maybe she misheard or misunderstood mitchell's comment. Just in case you were worried that 1.0 wasn't coming until September, let me put your mind at ease. The InfoWorld Mozilla story got it just plain wrong. Look for a 1.0 final release sometime in the coming month.

I just found a great article linked to from Kuro5hin.org that covers the basics of music theory. If you've ever tried to sum it up for a friend and found yourself getting really bogged down in technicalities or over-simplifying to the point of uselessness then this article is for you (and your friend). Now I just need someone to do the same thing for every other complex subject in the world ;-)

Another week goes by and no new checkins to m/b. Funny that the thing didn't get any attention until weeks after it seems to have stalled. Also cute that no one has really noticed that this is just a reshaped and simplified XUL front end for the millions of lines of great backend Mozilla code and almost the entire thing was about a day or so of work by two people, mostly one 16 year old mozilla contributor. I'm not knocking it or its contributor(s). It's a great idea and I'm one of it's biggest fans but it is amusing to see the reactions of those who don't really know what's going on and won't actaully investigate (pretty much every detail of this project is accessible via queries using our webtools, boys and girls).
What do I know about Mozilla? Well, it rhymes with GODZILLA

Mozilla makes TIME magazine, print and web!! Seems that this reviewer appreciates "the clever, stress-saving bells and whistles that come from millions of geek hours of testing." My presentation to folks at AOL went OK. Less than expected turnout. Time to catch the red-eye back to the west coast.
I just finished off a very cool weekend in Washington, D.C. In addition to all the entertaining protests that were happening, Deanna and I visited the National Gallery of Art and saw some of the most amazing paintings anywhere in the world. We also visited the Vietnam War Memorial, the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and much more. (If you're looking for a place to stay in downtown DC then check out the Lincoln Suites. It was a great location, a decent price and wonderful service.)
That's the good news. The bad news is that we're in Dulles, VA now. I haven't been in such a cultural wasteland in at least a decade. I don't know what I'd do if I had to live here. Let's hope that work on the west coast holds out.
So slashdot thinks that Mozilla poised for revival and Mozilla branches for RC 1 are front page news at /. but the actual release of RC1 is burried at back page news.
Just finished another expensive and painful ordeal at the dentist. I'm so frustrated with my insurance. It doesn't make any sense that dental care isn't handled the same way as medical care. With my health insurance plan I pay a deductible and then insurance picks up the rest. With dental care it's the opposite, they pay the inital chunk and anything over that is out of my pocket.
A few years ago I fell and fractured my skull. (don't do that. it's really painful). I was in the hosipital for a few days and the total bill was about $15K (I think). I paid a few hundred dollars and insurance picked up the rest. During the last couple of weeks I've had nearly $4K worth of dental work and insurance covered about a thousand of that and that's it. I've got to cover the rest.
It just doesn't make sense to me that if it's a bone in your leg that needs work then health insurance covers you but if it's a tooth in your mouth then you're hosed.

I've been invited to be the keynote speaker at a Mozilla-Gumi event which will celebrate the release of 1.0 and host discussions about the future. Sounds like about 300 people which would be very cool. If I can get funding to make the trip then I'll be in Japan mid-May.
I've also got an invitation to meet with Mozilla contributors at Sun in Beijing, China. I may try to connect the two trips and then take a vacation tacked onto the end of the trip with my wife, Deanna.
Nothing's final but it's definitely an interesting oportunity.

Ben and Blake are both upset over my not filling out the AOL Employee Survey. Ben, Blake, which part of "I am on vacation!" do you not understand? I can forgive Blake for not understanding, since he's still developing that prepubescent little mind of his, but Ben, there's simply no excuse. None.
I've moved again. From mozillazine.org/asa/ to mozillazine.org/weblogs/asa/. That suggests to me that there may be more weblog/<name>s in the works. How cool would that be, if mozillaZine becomes a Mozillla community weblog host.
I played around with another four or five templates and none of them really hooked me so I decided to roll one up myself. I have no idea what I'm doing (I really don't know the first thing about CSS) but maybe it will grow into something better. This displays very differently in Mozilla and IE and I don't really care. If I ever put any content up that matters to anyone then maybe I'll try to make it look nicer. 'Till then I'm havin' fun with -moz CSS properties ;-)
Declare the pennies on your eyes. Ugh. Well, at least it's done. I need to get something set up so I can track my taxable income, deductions, withholding, etc. in some convenient way. Somehow I came out owing considerably more than I had withheld. Seems I'm coming up fine on Federal by way off on California state income taxes.
I'm still waffling back and forth between mozblog and the blogger webtool for updating this thing. Mozblog is great for making posts while surfing but it lacks the template management tool that I'm still using quite a bit as I refine the notblog.
A big thanks to mozillaZine for giving me space to land my fledgling blog. Blogspot hosting was painful. This would be a great place to gather the blogs of other Mozilla contributors. It is, afterall, a community hub.
Another day and another "C:\mb\mozilla\browser> cvs up -d" that gives me nothing new. Sad. It had such promise ;-)

I made a grisly bet with my friend Ian that we would see the use of a nuclear weapon sometime in the next year. I'm thinking that it's gonna be one of 3 nations. The US is my first pick. India is number 2. And Israel is number 3. I sure hope I am 50 bucks poorer in a year.
There is something very important going on here. There is something empowering coming to the surface. Weblogs have been around for years now but I don't think it's a coincidence that just as the commercial internet bubble was bursting the blog scene started blowing up (in a good way).
