The Discovery launch went off without a hitch. What a beautiful shot of the external fuel tank separating that was. Wow. Spectacular!
Posted by asa at July 26, 2005 07:51 AMI was watching the video stream of it... not sure if NASA had their bandwidth maxed out or the linux Realplayer is just broken :/
Posted by: ant on July 26, 2005 08:00 AM@ant: Exact same problem here... But fortunately we had the replays :).
Posted by: GCN on July 26, 2005 08:29 AMIs a shot of the tanks separating available somewhere? I missed it...
Posted by: scott on July 26, 2005 08:33 AMI wonder if they are going to do some zero-g/no-atmosphere tests (inside the cargo bay) of that goo that they were going to use to patch any potential heat shield holes.
Posted by: Racer on July 26, 2005 09:33 AMHopefully that stuff which fell off the ET won't turn out to be a problem...
Posted by: Ryan VanderMeulen on July 26, 2005 01:40 PMI was thrilled to see the camera signal lasted through separation. That was the single most spectacular launch video I've ever seen. The ghostly blue reflection of the earth on the surface of the tiles under the shuttle, then the tank falling away and the shuttle seeming to fly away from it, just spectacular.
Posted by: Grey Hodge on July 26, 2005 05:02 PMIt's that felling like we've *finally* started the car and we're pulling out of the driveway. A few stops, a bit of sightseeing on the way, final destination - MARS. Oh please let it be within the next 20 years. Please let me see it!!

Posted by: john.e.boy on July 27, 2005 03:43 AMThe shuttle's an obsolete system developed in the '80s that's showing its age, and, yes it's been grounded yet again as of today!
