update testing over at the mozilla quality blog

I've posted the instructions for testing the new Deer Park update system over at the Mozilla Quality blog. If you're interested in helping us test out this new 1.1 feature, please head over there and give it a spin. Thanks!

Great work. The first "auto-update" to my system went w/o a hitch. I can't wait to see this in the final product.

Yes, works for me as well (with the error messages that you folks are aware of).

Super idea :)

Thnaks to to advice from rishi_maharaj, I was able to get Deer Park up and running while maintaining V1.0.4.

When I commented above that the update feature worked for me, I was indicating that I got to the point of having the error messages, so I knew I was pleased knowing I was on the right track.

Just for fun, last night I selected "Check for updates..." from the Help Menu. Yes, I got the error messages but this time, it gave me the option to update to a newer version. So I took up the offer.

Damn, this is such a cool idea and UI implementation. Knowing you are up-to-date with minimal effort is the way to go.

I can't thank you guys enough!

Now if I can just get SpellBound to work (yes I have done everything the Author, a nice man, suggests at his web page, a 1/2 dozen times over with no success, and yes I have submitted feedback via "Hendrix - Spellbound is the Killer App Extension for FireFox for me), I'll be a happy camper. Probably just a matter of something that I am doing wrong, so I have to have patience.

Sincerely,

Hmmmm....This has worked for me twice before, the last update giving me Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8b3) Gecko/20050708 Firefox/1.0+. But when I tried it this morning (The 9'th) it said there was a new FF 1.0+, and downloaded it ok (all 7.4 megs of it), went thru the restart process, and I get a window pop up saying "Error launching browser window: no XBL binding for browser." Persists even if I try renaming the firefox profile to a different name so it has to make a new one. So I went to here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/ and tried the latest Linux trunk build, and the latest Linux trunk FS build. Both extracted and ran fine.

Hopefully it's just a bad build or something because I rather liked being able to get the latest DPA2 trunk build this way.
