new deer park a1 testing builds

Yesterday we took what was supposed to be the final change into Deer Park Alpha 1 - the change to the theme and extension version from what we had on the 1.0 branch. This caused some fallout and we're looking for additional testing to make sure there aren't any unknowns in the area of extension updating.

Please grab one of the builds below and give it a whirl. If you find any additional problems with extension or theme update or install, please let me know here. Thanks.

I think the respin builds you want are here:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2005-05-27-13-trunk/
AFAIK you're pointing to the nightly builds from this morning.

the respins don't have significant changes (only fixing one bug, the theme version not being updated for our own theme).

What will the SVG be like in the finished version? I tried this alpha out and the SVG functionality seems a bit, well, bare right now... It renders pretty well but it's treated as a plugin rather than an image format.
Apart from that the rest of it's looking good so far. :)

Greetings:

Point one, I am just a User, not even a power-user any more, but I am a rabid Firefox fan.

Point two, I have no idea how to post bug reports, so I hope it's OK for me to post comments and reports here.

********

- I am really liking the speed improvement and the initial alert that some extensions are not compatible and won't work. Big help.

- When I open Deer Park, the extension "Session Saver" asks if I want to restore my last session (from FF 1.0.4). I say yes, and I get all 4 tabs that I closed the 1.0.4 session with *but* they are all "Untitled." This does not occur in 1.0.4 (all tabs load their respective URLs).

- When I try to close these Windows (with a check-box on each tab thanks to Tab Mix, or by using FF's close tab buttons), nothing happens: the windows do not close.

- When I go back to FF 1.0.4, I am again asked "Restore session?", and if I answer "Yes", I again see the four tabs but they are also untitled (where before quitting 1.0.4 then opening 1.0.4 would load the respsctive URLs).

I have tweaked the settings of Tab Mix and the FF tab Options but to no avail.

Finally, Deer Park is closing multiple tabs *without* warning me (though I have this preference set in Options to warn me). To be fair, as of a few days now, 1.0.4 is exhibiting the same behavior.

That's about all I have seen so far. I have listed my installed extensions below.

Keep up the good work :)

about the option -- load images "for the originating web sites only"

it used to remove(or hide, i'm not sure) the corresponding images from web pages as if they were never there
but now it shows the figures of them as kind of "blank images", which is much more unpleasant

is it a new feature or just a bug?

It shut off virtually all of my extensions and themes. It reported Forecastfox as version 0.7.5 when I have version 0.7.8 installed. It also did not import any of my bookmarks.

Posted by: Jerry on May 27, 2005 08:30 PM

On Mac OS X 10.3.9, Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050527 Firefox/1.0+ worked fine for me, with the only exceptions below:

(1) Adblock 0.5.d2.39, the only extension I use, had to be re-installed, it was not brought forward from my Firefox 1.0.4 install. Didn't have this problem with 1.0 PR->1.0->various 1.0.x releases. Not sure if this is because I had unchecked "allow websites to install software" after I'd originally installed Adblock in Firefox 1.0.

(2) It might be good to put mozdev.org in the default list of sites to allow to install software.

(3) Bookmarks of html files on my local computer no longer have icons next to them (in 1.0.x I think they had a document-looking icon, now there's just a blank space to the left of the name.)

I love the new Preferences window though--looking forward to seeing bookmarks revamped next.

Jerry, the version number is increased by 0.1. Most extension will certainly stop working. This is done on purpose.

P.S. FYI, there are some extensions that still works, including Gmail Notifier, WebmailCompose, BugMeNot, Web Developer, and Foxylicious.

Hi

When cancelling download the PART file won't be deleted from your download folder (deault - desktop)

Posted by: mark on May 28, 2005 12:20 AM

When the browser (20050527) starts, it ask to become the default browser
I have two buttons whithout any answer.
I can't click on them
I have to close the popup by closing the window.
After that, it works well so far.
may be this is related to my firefox 1.0.4 version being localized in french and this nighty being english only ?

The Venkman javascript debugger does not work with any of the recent Deer Park Alpha PRs. When I click tools->Javascript debugger nothing happens.

Firefox has disabled ViewCookies 1.2 and Tabbrowser Preferences 1.2.5.

Running on Windows XP SP2.

> When cancelling download the PART file won't be deleted from your download folder (default - desktop)

Later on this could be used to resume a download, maybe that's the reason not to delete it. Maybe an extension can use this right now.

I'm not seeing any themes, including the default theme. I installed the Charamel theme, and after a bug (reported as bug #295795) I can't select another theme to use, or uninstall the Charamel theme (reported as Bug #295797).

I can't wait until SpellBound and Mouse Gestures work with Deer Park. I use these extensions daily.

While Asa's seeing California (beautiful weather for it!)

Of the bugs he described as "fallout" the two for Mac OSX warn me off -- are those hitting everyone using OSX?

Or, a better way to ask: before I venture into this round, is this OSX build one to stay away from 'til fixed? I'm not a programmer, just a crash dummy for this purpose.

I'm not sure if what I see as "fallout" is all the problems reported, or just those he knew about before leaving town.

on this build: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050528 Firefox/1.0+

the following extensions don't work:

slim extension list 0.1
statusbar clock 1.6.4
weatherfox 0.5.1
tabbrowser preferences 1.2.5
remove it permanently 1.0.3
plain text links 0.2

the last build they worked on was this one: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050526 Firefox/1.0+

So I live dangerously -- OSX 10.3.9, G3 900mhz.

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050528 Firefox/1.0+ (latest "Deer Park" for OSX as of this morning)

Left my old 1.0.4 Firefox folder in place (yes, I backed it up)
Opened Deer Park.
Some extensions disappeared (AdBlock, RIP)
Others were still installed (Mimetype Editor 0.2, Bookmark Backup 0.3.3, NoScript, PrefBar 3.1.0, Aardvark 1.0). AdBlock reinstalled without a problem from Mozilla page (the "Get More Extensions" link) and works with my existing criteria after rebooting and turning it on, it had defaulted to Off. "Update" found and installed NoScript 1.0.7, which went without problems so far (haven't rebooted for that yet).

What's not to like?

HardinComp - SpellBound does work with DeerPark but you will have to re-install the libraries and dictionaries as stated on the spellbound web site.

Download manager tweak v 0.6.3
linkification v0.9.19 (This did update)
Disable targets for downloads v0.9
Optimoz tweaks v0.3
Gmail notifier v0.4.2 (This did update)
TabBrowser Preferences v1.2.5

Most theme's bodge up a little on the sanitize window and options window, but this is understandable as these were different/not included in previous releases. One extension I've found not to work was JustBlogIt, so I had to use BlogThis instead, which worked fine.

Posted by: Mr Anderson on May 29, 2005 10:25 AM

I've installed Deer Park on 2 different XP machines. On both machines, the browser crashes when I right click an ad and choose "AdBlock iFrame" (using the latest AdBlock extension, and the latest version of Deer Park). This never happened with any previous release of the browser.

Aardvard works. Oh, boy, does this work wonders.
Now I understand why Asa wanted more than just RIP.

And it does the tag-and-remove very, very well, too.

Posted by: TranMi on May 31, 2005 03:40 AM

I installed Flashgot and then the Getright downloader. Any attempt to use Getright from within Deer Park 20050530 produces a popup screen with an error message in the format "Service unknow for: /referrer=... /cookies='"' /url=...".
I can start Getright separately and cut and paste the address I want to download and it works. I have not tested this with 1.0.4. I do not know if there is some setting I should have gotten right in Getright. I gave up on it.

Star downloader, interfaced through Flashgot, works without a problem.

Note that I have not tried the Star downloader with its own Firefox plugin.

Hey, sorry, I'm a n00b to Deer Park, how do I install it? I'm pretty much unsure what parts I have to download from the FTP server and where I have to install them too.

Also, here is a translation of TranMi's post:

Hello, sorry to have to express myself in French, but my Enlgish is very poor.

I installed Deer Park Alpha 1, and I found that for an Alpha it is a realy good make. I encountered fewer problems than with Firefox 1.0.4 and I found that it renders pages a lot more rapidly, and starts up more quickly.

The foundation has done excellent work! Keep it up, and may the force be with you.

Thanks for the help.

I was wondering if it is planned to improve the widgets on Mac OS X in 1.1. Currently it still uses the same old ugly XUL widgets on Mac OS X, on pages.

Every time when I delete a bookmark I have to click twice to open the menu again.
I always use that menu to edit bookmarks and very rarely the manager or sidebar, so this is quite ennoying.
Please can you repair this?
