spreadfirefox passes 100,000 users

Today the Spread Firefox community reached an amazing new milestone; just 280 days from the project launch, SFX has past the 100,000 users mark. Wow!

SpreadFirefox.com has achieved some amazing successes in growing a massive grass roots advocacy group and in organizing that community to reach out to the world as the first successful open source outreach and marketing effort.

Others are taking notice - and taking action. The good folks over at Creative Commons are taking a look at building a Spread CC site and community. Open Office already has a SpreadOpenOffice.org site that's starting to stand up. Oh, and I shouldn't forget Brandon Philips, who is gonna put us all to shame with the undeniably bound for fame website, SpreadButter.com ;-)

The marketing landscape is changing. Real users are taking the stage once exclusively owned by actors with fake smiles and cheesy catch phrases. Mind-hooking jingles are being replaced by tens of thousands of personal testimonials. The grass roots are growing fast and they're lifting up quality products for the world to see. SpreadFirefox is just the beginning.

You're forgetting the upcoming Team 99 ;) and a somewhat similar initiative undertaken by Free software foundation Europe, The fellowship (http://fsfe.org/).

ciao

Now if only spreadfirefox.com actually did more things and kept itself updated it would be a really useful resource!

There's also http://www.gotrillian.com/ for the Trillian Instant Messaging client.

Here in Austria where I live, the city administration of Vienna will roll out its own Linux called "Wienux" soon: http://www.heise.de/english/newsticker/news/55470

We also have "Linuxwochen" (Linux weeks) right now, and the show will be in Vienna soon with a special event for businesses and government: http://www.linuxwochen.at/cgi-bin/index?id=100000872

Why am I posting all this penguin stuff to a Mozilla blog? Because Firefox is part of Wienux and features prominently in the Linuxwochen, that's why!

Is it me, or there isn't a link to download firefox at spredfirefox.com?
There used to be a button on the left column, and more recently a link on the right column, near to the counter. I can't see either right now.

Even when they were there, they weren't clear enough. So what's the point?
If someone gets there, what is he supposed to do? Won't he get lost?

"top posts, blogs, forums, Fifty Million Firefox Downloads, Get Buttons and Banners!, Weekly Roll Call, Spot the Fox! Photo Galleries, Newsletter..."

This is all he sees...
So what the hell is firefox? what the hell is spreadfirefox? What am I doing here?

The word "browser" can only be found on the page if you search for it, find as you type does that easily - one of the best features I've ever seen - but wait! A visitor doesn't know what firefox is, so he won't search for such word...

Is there anything I'm missing?

nuno, spreadfirefox.com isn't where you go to get firefox, you want getfirefox.com or mozilla.org

Oops... Nevermind.

I made a huge confusion with links like
http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=697&t=85
but those links actually redirect you to the download page, not to spreadfirefox.com
