According to Janco Associates, Inc., Firefox has achieved more than 10% marketshare in the North America and combined with Mozilla, Gecko has greatier than 14% of the market. Not only that, but their analyst believes that Firefox could have as much as 25% of the browser market within the next quarter. Good times!
Posted by asa at April 26, 2005 10:21 AMI wouldn't believe 25% in the first quarter - by the end of the year? Maybe. Either way this is excellent news and when we do hit 25% it's going to put pressure on business to start supporting standards otherwise they could be missing a lot of customers.

Janco has captured browser statistics since 1977...
?? How's that?

You think maybe it meant 1997?
Posted by: timfry on April 26, 2005 11:37 AMGreat to see FF over 10%. But you do need to look at the numbers a little more closely. The switch from MSIE to FF is less than 2%. And the switch from Mozilla browsers (incl. Netscape and AOL) is roughly 4%. So these numbers indicate a consolidation of Mozilla browser users onto FF. But they don't suggest a big swing of MSIE users - at least, not yet. Since the Mozilla consolidation is nearly complete, I expect to see the MSIE conversion start to pick up steam in the next few months.

Lorin:
last year around the same time MSIE had about 96 percent and mozilla 4 percent. now it's 10 for firefox, 4 for seamonkey and the rest for MSIE. I find that pretty impressive.
OneStat reports 8.69% for all Mozilla browsers, and TheCounter reports 5.7% for all Mozilla browsers. It seems there's more variance than ever in browser usage statistics!
Posted by: Steve Chapel on April 26, 2005 05:08 PMThe reports at OneStat and TheCounter are outdated. This one is based on April, not February.
