Maybe I'm late to the party with this (as I usually am) but I just noticed that Google News lets you customize the display of their news digest. Cool. Portal status, here they come ;-) I also got image previews on my standard search results for the first time today.

really wonderful ... now i can read google news in french AND in US without to have to switch from "google actualités" to google news ...
I like the feature that allows you to share your customized news feed at the bottom of the page. If people actually share them, it'll be a great to learn what other people are interested in.
My customized news feed so far:
http://news.google.com/news?ned=:ePkh8BM9gxjKqcUenppYkpFaBGK6ZRalpuVXQCxl12L1ycwrrYBZAgAOywu1
It tracks what you read so it automaticly customize both the news that it offeres and layout, according to your current interests.
And it is more space efficient than Google, and it offers better speed, as there are no images.
