It looks like we've sorted out enough of the update problems to re-enable the service. We had a number of problem, including localized builds that were incompletely localized so they were pointing to the en-US update, mac and windows clients trying to fetch win32 update bits, and some server-side issues as well. Things look pretty solid now so the service has been re-enabled.
We still don't have all of the localized updates posted, some are still awaiting code changes, others are in the QA process and some are just waiting for us to get a free minute to push them and add them to the update service.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes. I'll have to double-check, but I think the current list of available 1.0.1 updates are ca-AD, de-DE, el-GR, en-US, es-AR, fi-FI, fr-FR, hu-HU, it-IT, nl-NL, pl-PL, ro-RO, and ru-RU.

Posted by: aasgier on March 3, 2005 07:26 AMFWIW, I updated on a Windows XP box fine, but it offered to update me again after I restarted FF. :)
Posted by: Matt Howard on March 3, 2005 07:34 AMNice work, Asa!
Thank you!
de_DE now works perfectly.
Thank you!
Just upgraded another Win 2000 machine to Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050225
This time the route was selecting the Update icon, letting Firefox download the new version, but cancelling this when it offered to install, in the hope of uninstalling Firefox 1 using Control Panel, and then launching the new version's install.
Not quite successful.
Firefox now runs but puts up three consecutive alert boxes when it starts, these complain about a missing component:
"The dynamic link library xpcom_core.dll could not be found in the specified path ..." (List of several paths follows that)
Hope this info helps
Mark
es-AR and en-US worked great!
Posted by: sryo on March 3, 2005 08:58 AMdownloading full installer version 1.0.1(u call that a security fix, an "update" ?) I do'nt think so!
de-DE with problems: two versions in system configuration (registry) from XP (1.0 and 1.0.1). not clean!
problems by people, who interupted the installing/downlaod , > 4 MB, modem :(
so after this FF 1.0 was deactivatet, so u had to deinstall v 1.0, downloading setup.exe wit IE (grrrrrr), and so on..
second time big problems with update:
Why this short RC time??? this hurry was a big mistake, I think, u lost much friends.
bye
Posted by: German on March 3, 2005 11:06 AMMy mate just had the update notification. He had to kill the firefox process with taskmanager during the update (as firefox instructed him to), but apart from that he said it was the most painless update upgrade ever.
