I just found this great blog post that includes a Google Maps search plugin for the Firefox search bar. Great work (and fast!!!,) Judd Antin.

But I also think that Google have missused that moniker to such an extreme extend (somethink akin to "crying wolf") that it have lost all meaning coming from them. So I would say, no, it isn't in beta and I won't cut them any more slack than I would any other site that have just lauched aproxemetly 1 day ago (well, they have raised their own bar).
