According to the latest from heise.de, Firefox and Gecko have made huge strides in the last year.
Jan '05 Jan '04 Mozilla & Co (Gecko-Engine) 44,1 % 28,0 % Microsoft 36,3 % 54,8 %
That's pretty amazing and it's pretty much all Firefox gains. In one year, Gecko and Microsoft have nearly swiched places in terms of marketshare. It's nice to see such a major site with non-IE users in the majority.
Posted by asa at January 24, 2005 07:30 AMNetscape/Mozilla has always been huge in Germany it seems. Some years back when Netscape 4 was below 5%, it was 20% in Germany.
Really nice to see this stats. I hope that other countries will follow. :-)
Sadly, the stats for Danish website are not impressive (Denmark and Germany are neighbouring countries).
FDIM is an association of the most popular Danish websites including most newspapers, tv stations and online-only media like msn.dk (but not e.g. google.dk). Their numbers are probably the closest you can get to an "official" count of Danish browsers. The numbers are published here: http://www.fdim.dk/?vis=page&ID=73
Posted by: Christian on January 24, 2005 08:19 AMheise.de is a tech site, so it's not very representative.
Too many nerds around...
look at spiegel.de (most popular news site in Germany)
http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/technologie/0,1518,329472,00.html
(there is a nice graphic :) ) It's quite outdated, so I think that
the numbers are even better now.
TheCounter.com has some interesting stats themselves. Their Global Stats page has a breakdown of browsers used by people accessing sites that make use of their counters. We're pretty sure the "3." is supposed to be their new Firefox breakout. This gives us the following breakout by renderer:
MSHTML-Modern (Internet Explorer 5/6) : 88.69%
Gecko (Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape 6/7) : 6.67%
Other (Safari, Konqueror, Unknown) : 2.25%
MSHTML-Legacy (Internet Explorer 1-4) : 1.46%
Opera (Kinda obvious which browser it is) : 0.78%
Netscape (Netscape 1-4) : 0.16%
I wish places broke things out by renderer. It's far more useful than just "browser" for web developers.

at the bottom of the page www.spiegel.de reports at January 11:
65,33 % MSIE
26,06 % Mozilla/Firefox
03.26 % Opera
03.15 % Netscape
Four weeks earlier Gecko share was 21,65%, MSIE 69,36%
According to http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/netzkultur/0,1518,338441,00.html Firefox and Mozilla have now risen to over 27% marketshare on www.spiegel.de (the site has 200 million pageviews a month) and IE is below 65% now.
