gmail notifier question

Do any of you have any experience with the Gmail notifier Firefox extension? I'm wondering if/how it supports multiple Gmail accounts. I've got more than one and I'm looking for an easy way to find out when a new message comes into one of them.

I can't wait until they offer IMAP. I'm told it's coming.

I've been using Gmail Notifier extension for a long time. It's cool and working, but not for multiple accounts. :-P Even the official Gmail Notifier can't handle that, isn't it?

The thing is, Google does not allow having multiple Gmail accounts (not that anyone is complying) but I guess the makers of tools such as "Gmail notifier" don't want to be accused of encouraging people to breach their eula.

Pat__: Google most certainly _does_ allow multiple accounts. The thing it doesn't allow (and which was worded badly in their first version of the terms & conditions - long since updated - which is probably what you're thinking of) was creating multiple accounts with the purpose of getting around the restrictions they placed in said terms and conditions (doing illegal stuff).

the gmail extension is actually dangerous for multipile accounts. one of its major bugs is viewing one inbox, but using a previous, cached account, and sending new mail from the unviewed account.

Why don't you just use Gmail's atom feed to check your accounts. Throw Firefox a live bookmark or perhaps use Sage (Sage rocks). Use something like this: https://USERNAME:PASSWORD@gmail.google.com/gmail/feed/atom/

To see what's planned for Google's GMail Notifier: http://gmail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=10965&topic=-1
e.g. "New mail notifications for multiple Gmail accounts on the same computer", but I guess they mean that multiple user accounts on the same computer will be supported and not multiple GMail accounts for one user.

Where did you hear IMAP is coming? I feel quite comfortable using Gmail with POP now though. I can download my mail to my computer using POP, and I can access the mail from the web interface from any other computer. If I send an email from Thunderbird using Gmail's SMTP server, a copy of that mail is neatly placed in the Sent folder online. It's as close to IMAP as it gets.

sorry to be off topic, but JPL is holding a bunch of briefings in honor of the 1-year anniversary of landing on Mars. See this page for links to the NASA TV/Real Player display of the special events. Also bloggeda t my site. http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/missions/mer/briefing.cfm
