I just realized that the freeiPod offers change each day. If you don't know what I'm talking about, see yesterday's post where I set out to earn a free iPod from freeiPods.com.
How this works is that people subscribe to various services like blockbuster video online, credit cards, music services, newspapers, etc. through the link I provide here at the blog and if 5 people sign up for something then I get a free iPod.
If you don't need any of these kinds of services, then feel free to ignore these posts. If, however, you are looking for a music service, a newspaper subscription, a credit card, etc. then please get it through my link so I can get credit.
The offers seem to change each day, so if you're not interested in the services listed today, check back in a day or two and see if there's something that better fits your bill.
Thanks.
Posted by asa at November 23, 2004 07:54 AMAsa, I noticed that when you were promoting SpreadFirefox you were careful to include a link that didn't include your referrer code for people who, for whatever reason, didn't want to credit you as a referrer. I thought it admirable that you went to such lengths to avoid looking like you were credit-whoring. Now you've stooped to putting three (THREE!) links to a scheme not far removed from a pyramid in a post with no other purpose. What gives? It's your blog, you can link where you like, but you're not making yourself look good with this kind of post. The only other people I've seen in this scheme were Slashbots with nothing interesting to say. Don't become one of them.
Posted by: Rory Parle on November 23, 2004 09:52 AMRory, you don't have to buy anything through me. If you want to purchase one of those items, that'd help me get an iPod -- which I really, really, want but can't see spending $300 on.
With spreadfirefox, I don't need any credit. I don't mind it, but it's not going to get me anything since I'm an admin there :-)
I don't see how this is any different than having an amazon affiliate link and asking people who were interested in shopping at amazon to use my link so I can earn a few pennies. In this case, however, it's not like I'm trying to get rich off of my weblog.
If you'd like to buy me an iPod, I'd be thrilled. Short of that, I'm asking any of my readers who are interested in subscribing to any of these popular services to consider doing it through my link rather than going directly to, for example, blockbuster.com. When I've referred 5 people, I walk away with an iPod.
Also, I don't there's anything at all pyramid about this. I'm not asking anyone else to sell anything. I'm asking people to make a purchase of a service and that's it. If they decide they'd like to try to earn an iPod, that's completely up to them.
If you're not interested, feel free to ignore these posts. :-)

Posted by: Asa Dotzler on November 23, 2004 10:30 AMDon't be so f*ing cheap. You want an iPod, then pay for it, like millions of other people before you. I paid 480 Euro for mine two years ago, worth every cent of it.
Posted by: André on November 23, 2004 10:57 AMGive him a break! He's done a lot for firefox, and all he wants is a free iPod. While it is a pyramid scheme in essence, it's very different to the other ones.

Also why in the last 4 years, Moz is still trying to salvage itself, irrespective of numerous brilliant coders..
shame on you for trying to bring the "NON-PROFIT" Moz to grounds !!
It's OK to post it on YOUR blog.. But not on Mozillazine.ORG !!
Go on, keep promoting YOU before Moz.. Hats off for such whoring.
Posted by: Ugh on November 23, 2004 07:54 PMUgh, this is my blog. Mozillazine.org, which is completely independent from the Mozilla Foundation, offered to host my blog and I accepted. It's still my blog. Don't like it? Then don't read it.

Posted by: Grey Hodge on November 24, 2004 12:13 AMUm, what happened to my other comment? The one I posted before Asa's first comment here? It said, to the best of my recollection, "maybe I was too hard on the scheme; it doesn't appear to be as shady as it first looks. But I'm so sick of seeing those links elsewhere on the web that I'd rather not see them here too. Now I'll go back to reading the posts I'm here for." Note that I posted this before anyone else had commented in this thread. I don't know what happened to it.
Posted by: Rory Parle on November 24, 2004 03:32 AMI'm not interested in those pyramid games, no thank you
