firefox is a program called a “browser"

Colin D. Devroe, over at TheUberGeeks.net, has a nice article that explains Firefox to non-techy people but does it without that 'talking to a child' condescension that you find in a lot of articles trying to explain tech stuff to non-tech people.

Wow. That is REALLY dumbed down, and yet he still used the word "conceptually". I don't think anyone who has to be talked to in that low level of babble could grasp "conceptually".

The point is to explain browsers to people who aren't experienced computer users, but that doesn't mean they can't know the english language well. :-P

There's a mistake in the article though -- he says IE doesn't have an integrated popup blocker, and the article was posted two days ago.

Technically, he's right. IE doesn't. Windows XP Service Pack 2 only has the popup blocker. No one else using IE has it. :)
