rc2 soon

We're pretty much wrapped up with the few bug fixes we took after the first release candidate and we'll be pushing a second release candidate to the ftp server shortly. Stay tuned for more information.

Downloaded Firefox today and tried it. If you don't already know it, There is a problem with text. Look at the "headlines" on the Google News page. The tops are cut off. Also sometimes with regular text and on your own page:

under "Chris Messina" in a daughter window with WinXP SP1 (1280 x 1024). The latter cleared up when Windows rewrote it after being 'covered up.'

Is it kosher to re-nominate a minused bug if it has a simple, working patch? Bug 245392 is pretty much the last niggling glitch I see in an otherwise beautiful 1.0 release. Granted it is far from critical, but really if we can avoid cluttering people's start menu with useless icons (people love to complain about installers' icon creation practices for some reason...), it's worth considering.

Prof. Jewell, I tried both examples, and saw nothing of what you were pointing out. All text seems to be rendering fine to me, and have yet to come across this problem myself, even with the new 1.0RC2.

Just reporting that the Software update worked flawlessly for me under windows. This was from an earlier RC2 tinderbox build, so was not that much of an update, but the entire saftware update/install process went without a hitch and even the Lotus/IBM Sametime meetingroom client that installes in global chrome still worked!

Good work on the SOftware Upgrade issues!

Well, I was wrong. There is an issue with software update. If you are running RC1 or A pre-RC2 version, following the instructions on http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/qa/softwareupdate.html leaves you with an updated browser, but still having app.version set to 0.10.

Please see bug 267697.

I've experienced the same thing as Prof. Jewel with Firefox 1.0RC1 where the top of the letters of an entire rine sometimes gets cut off, reloading te page does make it go away though.

At first I thought it was a problem with the 2 wires hanging up the aperture grille on my new monitor (the previous one din't have the wires) but scrolling up or down doesn't solve it.

It basically cropped up at RC1,wich came out after I got my new monitor.
I never experienced it before and I have been using Firefox since 0.1
