try the family plan.

8,257 Firefox users have chipped in either $10 (student) or $30 each to the community-driven New York Times advertisment effort. That's just amazing!

There are still two days left if you want to get your name into the New York Times and be a part of history. Students can be a part of the effort for a disount at $10, the standard price is $30, and there's even a "family plan" that lets you get "The name Family" listed in the advertisment for $45.

With over 8,000 contributions from all over the world (and nearly 3,000 outside of the U.S.) you all are changing the way open source projects communicate to potential users. Join the campaign and help Firefox make history.

Hi Asa,

Is this still going to be just a one page ad in the NYT? If so, I can't help but wonder what font type they'll be using to get all 8k+ names on the one page, along with the ad itself. :-)

Regards,
Steve

Out of curiosity, how did you end up *not* being on Planet Mozilla? I'm trying to figure out which of the Mozilla blog aggregators to follow, and everyone seems to be on different places...

Steve,
I made some rough calculations - they can fit 6000-8000 initial.last_name on one page at 8 points if they do it as a background image "under" the ad.

I didn't know there was a student discount for this. I'm studying computer science and will soon move in with my girlfriend and don't have much money at the moment, so I didn't consider donating for the campaign until now. The question: Will a student be placed among the other names or get placed in a separate section?

Asa's not on Planet Mozilla by choice (ask him for the reason). I use mozillaZine feedHouse, which is good enough for me even tho it misses a few (like bsmedberg and Alex Vincent).

David, definitely. Student contributors are placed right along side full price contributors. We value everyone equally ;-)

Stuart, I asked to be removed from Planet Mozilla. Planet Mozilla feeds the small blog box on the front page of www.mozilla.org and I felt that might cause me to self-censor and that just wasn't appealing to me.

Steve, we'll make it fit. If we have to expand to two pages, we'll do that. Heck, I'll bet we could do three pages if we need to. We won't let you down :-)
