If you've been waiting for "official" Firefox localizations and language pack XPIs to become avialable, it's happening!.
It would be really nice if we could ship some of these builds with the Firefox 1.0 Release Candidate but we need some testing of these new automated builds. Grab a build and let me know if it works.
Posted by asa at October 20, 2004 03:42 PM"Nice" isn't the word, it's a must if firefox is to spread beyond USAland. But, hey, no ja-JP !?
James, before the Mozilla Foundation was producing localized builds, we had a community of volunteer localizers that had localized Mozilla and Firefox into about 100 languages in the last few of years.
The localizations we have now are contributed by those volunteers and for some reason, the ja-JP team hasn't contributed their work into our CVS repository. I hope they do.

Posted by: Asa Dotzler on October 20, 2004 06:37 PMDoes that means user need to be Firefox first, then install the "language pack" as extension?
Any plan to build the native versions of localized Firefox?
Posted by: minghong on October 20, 2004 10:05 PMGreat news! I've been waiting for this a long time.
Is there an easy way to build a localized version? Like some specific option to add to .mozconfig?
Posted by: Markus Lindström on October 20, 2004 10:05 PMAh, there are localized installers... Sorry!
Posted by: minghong on October 20, 2004 10:07 PMWhen I downloaded xpi for my language(SLovenian) And open firefox like it said ( firefox -ui slovenian) or something like that. The first time interface was slovenian. But the next day wasn't anymore. And I have an extension local switcher. It is showing that I have SLovenian Interface, but it is English.
If someone know the answer please tell me.

I am grabbing the french one ;)
By the way, since Benjamin Smedberg said it could be possible to build translation with firefox, I made my own one in french, and release them for people who are interested, using 3rd party artwork :)

And it works great so far :)
