I heard tonight that Christopher Reeve has died.
The super hero he played on the silver screen was but a shadow of the hero he was in real life to so many with spinal cord injuries and other disorders of the brain and central nervous system.
Rest in peace, Christopher Reeve.
SUPERMAN starts down the tunnel for the door. Suddenly panels open on both sides filled with machine gun barrels. They open fire simultaneously in a withering, deafening barrage. SUPERMAN walks forward calmly as thousands of bullets ricochet off' him.Posted by asa at October 10, 2004 10:09 PM
I don't know exactly who he is, but I think I've heard of him before...

I'll just say that an injury changing one's life doesn't necessarily mean you lived a life before where you had to use your arms and legs, like that author says. That's a very shallow way of looking at things. What he probably meant, like most other victims of fatal injuries, is that he has changed his *values* in life, mostly because he has been forced to. Does that really make him an asshole? Hm...

Posted by: Asa Dotzler on October 11, 2004 07:15 AMThe most outstanding aspect about this guy was his activism for the rights of handicapped people after his accident. In the end, such an attitude can transform the memories of "that superman guy" you saw in some movies during your childhood into those of a real personality worth remembering.
