download links broken for sp2 users?

We're getting a fair amount of email to webmaster about XP SP2 IE users not being able to see the download links on the front page of w.m.o and the Firefox product page. The div that contains the download links is generated by a (now) inline script. IE on SP2 users are saying they don't see that content at all and it sounds like clearing IE's cache fixes this. Anyone out there on SP2 see this? Do you see any JS errors on the page loading? Any help is greatly appreciated.

On sp2 here with no problems.

However just the other day i had a friend ask me where the "free download" link was. I assumed they'd just missed it somehow.

Experienced the same Problem on an computer in my family. But it was the same thing in IE and Firefox: The Problem was the automatical ad blocker of the Norton Internet Security Suite. Only inactivating the ad blocker and clearing the cache (both browsers) helped. The ad blocker searches for some expressions in web pages to block ads, perhaps the (green) download boxes on the front and the firefox product page feature one of these expressions.

Don't know if it helps... :)

I just found out that the friend i mentioned before uses winME. So no SP2.

However what i do know is that in relation to Jonatan's post above, she also uses Norton Internet Security.

Funninly enough so do i, but i've had to disable both Privacy contol and add blocking in it for a long time. As ALL images (Including css based ones.) on some websites seem to be blocked by it. No idea why or what those specific site had in common.

But since it's not meant to have been all images i guess Jonatan must be right in narrowing it down to the add blocking feature on this occasion.

Apologies for the terrible spelling, punctuation and whatnot. I really should check before posting. :/

So, adblocking is bad :)

I also saw no problems in MSIE 6 on WinXP

There has been numerous reports on the forums about NIS filtering out that link, or filtering out the scripts creating that link maybe.

I have no problem XP SP2.

Not a problem with a stock IE6 SP2, but I've seen so many reports of the NIS problem that I added a sticky in the Firefox support forum.

I don't see the download link on both browsers and I even tried turning off my norton internet security.

Matt, do you see any errors in the JavaScript console? What happens if you clear your cache in IE and then reload the page?

I see download links "Free Download" on both the homepage and on the Firefox product page, but I have never visited w.m.o using MSIE before. ;-)

You may be dealing with a caching problem in the css files. I recommend that you start using version identifiers in the css files and bumping the version each time you change the css. This will allow browsers to cache the css but when you do change the rules, they will automatically get the new css file since the url has changed.

Asa, I just reloaded my laptop with XP SP2 and downloaded/installed Firefox from Mozilla.org. No issues at all, downloaded started right away.

Using XP SP2 pro and I see no problems; though presumably it wasn't cached. (BTW, shouldn't there be a firefox logo somewhere in the firefox section?)

No problem here (IE6 SP2, no NIS or similar things).

I noticed the download link was not there friday. I was downloading SP2 on a friend's computer and browsed to getfirefox.com to give his computer a much needed new browser. Eventually, I had to copy FF from the ftp site.

In this case, SP2 was clearly not there yet when the problem occurred.

I tried it today and I see the download link in both browsers. I don't know if you did anything but it works for me now.
