finding firefox

As you spread the word about Firefox to your friends, family, co-workers, cable repair man, etc. you can use the easy to remember "GetFirefox.com" address. It'll be much better than saying "well, first go to mozilla.org and then go to the Mozilla products page and then click on the Firefox link," and maybe even easier than saying "just type 'firefox' into google."

Another quick way to get there is through my big image link over there on the left side of the front page. The image of the firefox down to that "Get Firefox" button is one big link (through the new SpreadFirefox.com affiliate program) to the Firefox product page :-)

Only today I got 3 persons to start using Firefox. A personal record :-) It was love at first sight for them.

Hi Asa. I am doing my best to spread the word through all means including my blog. However, ever since the site (spreadfirefox.com) opened it has been either down or painfully slow. I myself have not been able to access it for a few days straight now. Getfirefox.com works but that way I'm not able to make use of the affiliate scheme which I signed up to.

I would have thought that Firefox.com would be easier, but that's just me.

Yeah, sfx's definitely slow.

You know, it might be a good idea for MF to set aside some money for a new server or two, because things are getting pretty slow again. I remember around 0.8 I noticed extreme slowdown, but it was rectified for 0.9 by AOL's servers. It appears we've overloaded even those now, and it'll only be worse for 1.0.

I can't help but wonder how many more people would be converted and how many more downloads would be served if the overloading of hosting wasn't an issue.

Similarly, GetThunderbird.com

Spreadfirefox is great, but *why* are we really setting up all these links that go there rather than to something that has the firefox install and simple directions for new users?

IMO, new users clicking on a "Get Firefox" button won't really be interested in a community effort to spread the word - they'll want to "get firefox" and see some help on installing it, getting started using it, migrating from MSIE, etc.

Make sense?

Now that Moz has firefox.com, why not just say, if you want firefox, just goto firefox.com?

Posted by: p on September 16, 2004 09:21 AM

I think that's because we don't have thunderbird.com...

Jeff, all these Get Firefox buttons take you to http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox (via a redirect).

Asa - while most people's buttons do take you to the product page, clicking your big image link just takes you to the Spread Firefox community page. I notice that your link doesn't have a "t=" part like the others - I guess that might be why?

I've told a few people of GetFirefox.com, but they always forget it and go to GetFoxfire.com instead, apparently because there was a perfume a long time ago called Foxfire. Not one person I've told(all older ladies like my aunt) have remembered that it is Firefox and not Foxfire.

Getfoxfire.com is available so registering it and redirecting it to the real firefox page might be a good idea :)

Surprisingly, a lot of people seem to confuse firefox and foxfire. Partial browser name dyslexia? Anyway, I bought getfoxfire.com and will have it redirected by day's end.

John, that's awesome! What a nice guy.

P.S. I'm a PortableFirefox user!

You mean like the one on your blog that points to:
http://www.spreadfirefox.com//?q=affiliates&id=4&t=1

That's odd, because yesterday it did not go to the firefox product area, but went to spread firefox's content. perhaps the redirector was overwhelmed or something...? Or perhaps you fixed your link yesterday after Michell's comment above.

(BTW why does your URL have 2 /'s?)

Heh. Thanks! I try. getfoxfire.com is up and links through my spreadfirefox redirector. I think about 50 folks have found firefox that way that normally wouldn't, which is cool. (The others hit it through my homepage). Glad to hear you're using Portable Firefox. I'm surprised at how popular it's gotten... 14,000 downloads so far.
