Update: see the latest info above.
We have a set of builds that we hope will become Firefox 1.0 Preview Release (also known as Firefox 0.10). You can get the Windows build here, the Mac build here, and the Linux build here. Please help us test these builds and let us know if you find any recent regressions that should prevent this from becoming the 1.0 PR release build. If all goes well in testing, we should have ourselves a release early next week.
Posted by asa at September 10, 2004 02:14 PMIf I have blo.gs open in the sidebar and right-click a link and choose "Open in new tab," a new tab does NOT open. Although control-clicking produces a new tab. I am an idiot with Bugzilla, is this reported already?
Posted by: Basil Crow on September 10, 2004 02:52 PMThe installer says I'm installing Firefox 1.0, which I am not. I'm installing Firefox 1.0PR.
Posted by: Mike G on September 10, 2004 03:29 PMAdd/Remove Programs still shows 0.9.3 as an installed product. When I install over an old version, I expect the old version to be gone. In other words, don't just replace the files too, get rid of the uninstall regkey too.
Posted by: Mike G on September 10, 2004 05:16 PMIt appears that the autocomplete widgit is not showing up. Maybe it is just that the password manager is not working as I'm trying it in an area that has multiple accounts. When I select a textbox and click again, I get no drop down. I tried this in the "Bug #" text box at the bottom of any bug in http://bugzilla.mozilla.org.
I also notice that the "PageUp", "PageDown", Ctrl-End, Ctrl-Home doesn't seem to work while viewing a bug at http://bugzilla.mozilla.org. Well, it seems to be working now, but for a bit those keys weren't working. I'm not sure why.
Posted by: Kipp Howard on September 10, 2004 07:58 PMI second Mike G's comment. I have 3 versions of Firefox listed in Add/Remove programs :).
Posted by: Jafe Mourner on September 10, 2004 09:09 PMWhen I click on the XPI link of All-in-One gestures version 0.12 (Go to http://perso.wanadoo.fr/marc.boullet/ext/extensions-en.html and jump to the end of page), there is no notification (of course, no installation too). For other extensions, there is notification because of the XPI blocking...
Posted by: minghong on September 10, 2004 10:05 PMIs there any way of running 2 different versions of Firefox with seperate profiles? I'd like to help test but I can't lose the ability to do my work (for which I require some extensions not compatible with nightly builds).
Posted by: hemebond on September 10, 2004 10:42 PMhemebond, download the zip version of the Firefoxs.
Use the -P switch to select the old profiles.
Minor bug: Now that the url bar is always shown in popups, if you in your navigation toolbar have separators, they will also appear in the popup
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=158123&action=view
Also the tab is shown, and i think i saw a bug where it says that the develeper extension was also shown.
Posted by: José Jeira on September 11, 2004 01:59 AMThe extension version check is still a real pain. I currently use just three extensions, and only one had an updated version available.
I did some research and started patching the xpi installers, setting maxVersion manually to 1.0. With a little less time (or skill), I simply would have switched back to my latest 0830 nightly.
If this doesnt improve until 0.10 release, I cant recommend this release to any of my friends that use extensions.
Just a little option to manually re-enable an out-versioned extension, and everything would be a lot less painfull.
I've been expecting a bug to be fixed for a while now, to my surprise it hasn't. It's not a severe bug, but worth mentioning.
On Windows XP, When I install Firefox (0.8-1.0), using the installer, and choose not to create any icons (neither desktop, quick launch or start menu), it still creates a Mozilla Firefox folder, only an empty one.
Obviously it shouldn't create any folder, if no icons are chosen.
Posted by: Joen on September 11, 2004 08:54 AMEvery time you install a new version of Ad-Aware SE, it asks you if you want it to uninstall the old version for you at the start of the installation. In a flash the old version has been purged, and you can then install Ad-Aware in the same directory as the previous version.
How about an installer for Firefox which uninstalls previous versions, if you so desire? Since we're told not to install over old versions, after all.
People who run multiple Firefox builds could simply skip the step.
Posted by: kronix on September 11, 2004 10:54 AMThe autocomplete widgit is now working. I do not understand why it didn't work for a while after my initial installation (even though I restarted the browser a number of times). I havent rebooted my XP machine and it just started working this morning. Go figure...
Posted by: Kipp Howard on September 11, 2004 11:28 AMkronix makes a good point. In my Windows Uninstall folder, I have installed Firefox 0.9, 0.9.1, 0.9.2, 0.9.3 and now 1.0 pr. It would be nice to atleast have the old ones removed upon a new install.
Furthermore, I find it quote illogical that the Find bar (find in page) appears at the very bottom of the page. The fact that something has to blink to get your attention is a usability flaw, and I'm surprised this feature was even introduced prior to the big 1.0. IMHO the "Find" box should behave as all other find in page boxes do, and be a floating panel, always on top.
Posted by: Joen on September 11, 2004 04:22 PMI installed 1.0PR over 0.9.2 on my win XP.
When I start it I get following error & the window never shows up.
The CPU usage by firefox.exe is 95%, I waited for a couple minutes and then manually killed the process.
Error message: "Java Plug-in for Netsacape Navigator should not be used in Microsoft IE. Please use Java Plug-in for Microsoft IE instead."
I don't understand what IE has to do with firefox? BTW, I was using sun JVM with firefox 0.9 version.
Firefox 1.0 pre still does not honor the system wide proxy Settings of Mac OS X. This is pretty annoying when using a Notebook which changes locations frequently.
Also the Customize toolbar windows does not behave properly (Should behave like a "sheet" but appears on the top left corner of the screen and "scrolls" open.)
Also the settings windows should not be implemented as sheet, since it covers the whole application, not just the active window.
Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but Firefox is so 'foolproof'...
It would have been nice to get a warning that all extensions would stop working on 1.0PR.
Second that about the uninstall list
How I wish I could give the Google bar a bar to itself...
Not as convinced as I was, Mozilla.
Posted by: noobe on September 16, 2004 01:04 AMAfter installing 1.0 PR over 0.9.3 I subscribed to slashdot RSS. Ever since anytime I click on Bookmark's menu firefox hangs :(.
Posted by: Rohit on September 16, 2004 10:41 PMUninstalled Firefox 0.9.3 first but did not remove the folder, rebooted, installed Firefox 1.0PR without any problem.
Posted by: Davco on September 19, 2004 04:08 AMI installed 1.0PR over 0.9.2 on my win 2000.
When I start it, I get following error & the window never shows up.
The CPU usage by firefox.exe is
Error message: "Java Plug-in for Netsacape Navigator should not be used in Microsoft IE. Please use Java Plug-in for Microsoft IE instead."
Add remove programs showed 2 Firefoxes (.9.2 and 1.0PR). I've removed both, rebooted, and re-installed (using the latest Win build (9/10/2004). No joy. Firefox will not run. Back to IE6. IE6 runs OK.
Posted by: Charles Butler on September 21, 2004 04:11 PMI deleted my profiles folder and now firefox works. However, I've lost all my bookmarks.
Posted by: Charles Butler on September 21, 2004 04:33 PMI also receive the message "Java Plug-in for Netsacape Navigator should not be used in Microsoft IE. Please use Java Plug-in for Microsoft IE instead." when installing 1.0PR over 0.9.3. I even tried the latest nightly build from 2004-09-21. What is the deal here? Do I have to completely remove all file system and registry references to the old Firefox first? I don't want to, since I have installed a truckload of very useful extensions (all of which I think belong in the browser itself, rather than being extensions.) Also, my real world situation is that I have a mission critical application that requires Internet Explorer and Sun's JRE version j2re-1_4_1_02. I don't have a choice here. The vendor isn't currently supporting another browser or jre, and the application has to be used (there is no current alternative.)

I've been trying to install 1.0PR for several hours now and still getting the java error mentioned in threads above. Is there any chance that the rest of you had the "User Agent Switcher" Extension installed? I've been poking around (in IE unfortunately), and that was one of the suggestions I've seen.
PLEASE, someone give me a solution if you have it.
Posted by: Todd Malicoat on September 24, 2004 07:08 PMI received the message "Java Plug-in for Netsacape Navigator should not be used in Microsoft IE. Please use Java Plug-in for Microsoft IE instead." after installing the Bug-me-not extension (I have also got this message when I originally installed 1.0PR). I've found that removing the profiles folder will allow Firefox to start. So far I have only been able to copy the bookmarks.htm file from the original profile.
Posted by: Charles Butler on September 25, 2004 03:41 PMI, too, am running Windows 2000. I uninstalled the .9x version before I installed Firefox 1.0 and have had no trouble. Firefox runs fine. I also use Firefox at work on an XP with SP2 and have had no issues.
I have one grumble and that has to do with the find or search function. I used to be able to type in one search criteria and use that same criteria on each tab that was open. Now I have to re-enter the information for each tab. (liked it the "old" way)
carry on...
Posted by: MLG on September 27, 2004 10:58 PMI agree with the comment by Joen that: "I find it quote illogical that the Find bar (find in page) appears at the very bottom of the page. IMHO the "Find" box should behave as all other find in page boxes do, and be a floating panel, always on top." The new bottom-of-the-page location requires too much cursor movement.
