extension update changes

Ben talks about some big changes coming to the Extension update system. Scary, but given the state of the current mechanism, I'm glad we're doing something.

Well... Let's hope this doesn't delay 1.0PR and 1.0 too much, as we've already lost quite some leverage against IE since SP2 ships, and given enough time we'll lose more converts as soon as they start installing SP2 (we lost the pop-up blocker advantage).

given that I've used http-get-string + RDF (the mechanism they are switching to) in mozilla for some custom apps before, I'd say this should be real easy (and real fast too, both dev and runtime).

Just wondering if bulk install of xpi's or jar's are possible to code, etc.

I've had to rebuild my extensions folder several times over. Maybe saving the xpi's, jar's, etc and having a rebuild extensions functionality or re-install functionality on each extension/theme would be good.

The bulk piece would really make it easier for me to deploy extensions to a pretty sizey group of computers that I manage too, hope someone hears this cry for help.
